ALL ABOUT US

HOW CAN YOU PICK THE RIGHT CAMP?

AN UNFORGETTABLE INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR CAMPERS AND ADULT ALIKE

THE REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD COME TO THE CAMP?

HERE ARE A FEW KEY QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED WHILE CHOOSING AN ICE HOCKEY CAMP:

What are general conditions for training and accommodations like? Is everything in one place? What are the facilities like? How much guaranteed ice time is provided every day? What other activites are o!ered and how are they organized? Do the advertised trainers actually participate in the camp? Are they qualified? What language skills do the trainers, counselors and managers have? How many counselors are in the group and how are kids supervised in their accommodations? How is communication between the camp and parents/kids? What are the camp’s references? How much tradition and experience does it have? What is the general camp environment like? What is the atmosphere like?

A CHANCE TO DEVELOP YOUR INDIVIDIUAL AND TEAM ICE HOCKEY SKILLS

Practice and learn an intensive type of HOCKEY game, under the professional supervision of ex-perienced trainers. We allow a maximum number of 27 players on the ice so that the training ses-sions are as intensive and non-stop as you can

imagine and manage. It’s not going to be that easy-but you will feel the results through self-improvement, and self-satisfaction almost immediately! We believe this to be the best personal reward we can o!er you.

Even if you train hard, you will still have FUN! There is no other game which should be played just for the feeling of power and victory. To lead the team to victory, you have to enjoy it, be excited, play with your heart-mind-soul, know and try to get to know both the competitor and your team. For those with the heart of an athlete this should be all about FUN but to make it as much about FUN means an important personal challenge and always learning.

Your BODY has many di!erent needs! That’s why there is a detailed attention devoted to overall body develop-ment such as dry land training, biking, swimming, etc. As well as relaxation through such activities as; sauna, mas-sages, games, etc. Everything is administered with the as-sistance and guidance of our professional trainers and instructors at one of the best training centers available to Czech athletes.

But don´t forget about your MIND. The camp o!ers a great opportunity to meet other ice hockey enthusiasts from all over the world. They will become your training partners. As well as your teammates and competitors during the games. You will hopefully remain good friends for the rest of your life. As you are exposed to the di!er-ent cultures of the coaches and players, you will gain an understanding of sport and life from other countries and regions of the world. This will help you to grow socially, as you are exposed to di!erent life prospective.

The camp location is the Czech Republic! It is a country with an excellent ice hockey tradition, boasting the most NHL hockey players from any European country, which is amazing considering the country’s relatively small popula-tion. But it is also one of the most beautiful and popu-lar historical sites in the world. Throughout the entire country, you will be dazzled by the majestic countryside, castles, cities and quant towns. The town of Nymburk is no exception and o!ers many opportunities. For those interested, we can arrange trips to historical and cultural sites. These tours will amaze you and please your mind, soul and eyes!

YEAR TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE

BEST ICE HOCKEY

CAMP IN THE

WORLDWelcome to the Czech International Hockey Camp, now in its anniversary of 11 years helping players and their par-ents to spend great hockey vacations in the Czech Republic. We are proud to have had more than 4500 young players and 1700 parents from 32 countries all around the world have chosen our camps as part of their o!-season training program. For the year 2011 we are o!ering camps with in-tensive trainings for 6 – 18 years old players again! On and o! ice sessions are provided by educated and experienced coaches and instructors with perfect knowledge of English, the o"cial camp language. We also o!er an intensive Goal-

ie Camp, led by Josef Hovora, experienced coach of such personalities as Hasek, Turek, Cechmanek, Hnilicka, Salficky, Pavelec, Stepanek, Vokoun and others in their junior age.

Our company can organize special events at your own request during the whole year. We can organize practices, exhibition games and tournament tours for teams coming to Czech Republic and Europe.

Czech players are one of the most successful players of NHL and other national leagues. The success of the Czech

ice hockey is due to its time-tested and competitively prov-en coaching and training techniques. The Czech national team won the Olympic games in Nagano 1998 and the World Championships several times including the last World Championship in Germany 2010. Czech Junior National Team won the World Championships 1999 and 2000.

In this brochure we want to present ice hockey camps and events that we organize in the year 2011. So come and see why the Czech International Hockey Camp is the best camp in the world!

ON ICE TRAINING Training on the ice includes Ludek Bukac’s IMO (Imaginary Model Opponent) method. This consists of placing ob-stacles on the ice in constantly changing configurations which simulate di!erent opponent situations, pushing the player to develop his performance and technique in all possible conditions. This is quite demanding in terms of strength, skating and maneuverability.

On-ice curriculum is comprised of circuit training, skill development drills (full ice drills) and small area games that includes Power-skating, Stickhandling (player has a puck on his stick the majority of the day), Puck Protec-tion, Body Contact. Shooting, Passing, Conditioning, Agility, Game Preparation. The station training is another impor-tant component, and involves work in small groups, each led by a di!erent trainer and focusing on a specific skill or set of skills.

We are teaching and training players both the o!ensive and defensive aspects of the game. All skills are taught and trained at top speed simulating game situations. All levels are taught at an age appropriate level. Player place-

CLASSROOMWe provide players with a game situation analysis almost every day. Players are recorded by camera while training and in the classroom the records are reviewed and com-mented by coaches. Ice hockey theory, rules and tactics can be explained very easily with the help of video sessions.

MENTAL TRAININGPersonal responsibility, teambuilding, self-discipline, and motivation. These are terms we believe in and we teach players to understand.

ment by the Czech International Hockey Camp Sta! is a key ingredient to each players success.

Typical elements of the Czech ice hockey are also imple-mented during ice training, including crossing, playing in the corners, open up, passing and transition of the neu-tral zone. Non-traditional games and contests have also proven to be a valuable part of the training process. Ac-tivities such as ice soccer or ice basketball, using a tennis ball instead of a puck and relay and obstacle course races keep the players’ attention and motivation high.

DRYLAND TRAINING Ice hockey is a complex game and players have to be able to recognize and respond to multiple stimuli at once. Af-ter players master the basic obstacle course or exercise circuit, trainers add further components to help develop coordination and fine motor skills. The result is that by the second week, players are able to run the obstacle course while simultaneously dribbling a basketball and kicking a soccer ball, or do squats on a balance board while following the trainer’s movement.

Professionally supervised stretching enables players to reach their full potential. The goal is to teach the players optimal posture and movement techniques. Bad habits, once learned, can be di"cult or nearly impossible to un-learn, leading to imbalanced muscle development, excess strain, and eventually to joint and muscle injury. Strength training is carefully supervised and adapted to the play-er’s age and physical development. This is especially im-portant in the case of younger players in earlier growth phases. Our training programs are designed holistically, taking into account the physical demands of ice training sessions. Proper execution of each exercise, adequate rest and regeneration, and the individual player’s condi-tion are important factors in our program development.

REST PERIOD, REGENERATION Without question we can say that exercise is a key com-ponent of health and physical fitness. It is necessary. For top athletes and for young players as well there exists a border between the moment where they are training and when they are destroying their bodies. We can’t forget that our health is the most important thing for our being and the e!ect of bad usage of our bodies comes later. Training session provokes both, an increase in fitness and an increase in fatigue. Training also suppress performance ability. Residual fatigue from training fades more rapidely than the residual fitness. After the organism’s adaptivity is lost, the further training leads to overtraining! That’s why is regeneration so important. CIH o!ers many op-portunities how to relax after training sessions. There is swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi or massages. Without this procedures further training does not make a sense. One of the aims of our camp is to teach players to know that recondition after the whole day spending on ice, athletic trail or soccer field is very important.

NUTRITION AND DAILY REGIME The goal of sports is improved performance.Right diet and nutrition are as important as a well-designed training program. Nutrition plays an important role in supplying the energy needed for sport and also for the material the body needs to handle the high demands on its muscles, joints and nervous system. Balanced high-quality nutrition is one of our priorities. Optimum performance requires optimum nutrition, especially during the intensive train-ing our camp provides. We plan not only the content but also size and timing of all five meals a day to give players what they need to achieve their goals. In addition, we pay careful attention to adequate hydration (2 to 3 liters of mostly unsweetened liquids daily) because we know that campers come here to train hard which means they need to drink more.

TYPICAL CAMP SCHEDULE

VARIETY OF BALANCED NUTRITIOUS MEALS

24-HOUR SUPERVISION BY STAFF OR PREFESSIONAL COUNSELORS

FOODPlayers get five meals a day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks include vegetables and fruits. A healthy diet with good moderation of sugars, fats, proteins is essential for any athlete who wants to reach the top. Vitamins, miner-als and other important components of the reasonable nourishment must be present in the perfect sport diet. We take care about meals of our players and we teach them how to eat and drink to train e"ciently.

SUPERVIZINGWe guarantee 24 hours of supervision every day. Each group will be assigned its own counselor whose focus is on players for the whole week. This instructor also pro-vides basic health care for the group.

FREE TIMEExcept the rest time there is almost no free time for the youth-category players. On Wednesday we organize a half-day trip to Prague. It is a great distraction from train-ing. The kids use this time away from training to forget about ice hockey for a while. It also minimizes the risk of injury caused by fatigue. We show them the beautiful center of Prague, historic Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, the old Astronomical Clock at the Old Town Square. We also visit the biggest ice hockey store where the kids can purchase items unique to the Czech ice hockey.

ADULT CAMPS

TRAINING METHODS Special goalie training using modern techniques takes place under the watchful eye of Josef Hovora, an experi-enced coach of such personalities as Hasek, Turek, Cech-manek, Hnilicka, Salficky and others in their junior age. Throughout the whole week, goalies get comprehensive training which will help them substantially in following seasons. Video technology is used during the training on the ice. Players are taped in a variety of situations then the videos are analyzed right on the spot or in the nearby classroom. This provides an important feedback so that the goalie can eliminate weak points.

Another tool used is the goalie band. This is a revolution-ary new training tool for ice hockey goalies of all ages and skill levels. It teaches a goalie how to properly posi-tion themselves in the goal crease when facing a shooter by “gently reminding them” when they are acking up too far in the crease. By using the Goalie Band in practice situ-ations, goalies become accustomed to setting up at the front of the crease area, thus cutting the angles and giv-ing shooters much less of a target to shoot at.

ON-ICE TRAINING Our specialized station regimen challenges you to perfect your fundamentals and then advances you to game-like situations with shooters. Along with Coach Hovora we

have 4 additional goalie coaches giving you a 4:1 goalie to coach ratio to maximize your learning experience.

Advanced game situations Over 17 hours on-ice per week + game AM session with instructors & shooters PM session with instructors & shooters Evening session Break away competition

OFF-ICE TRAINING Our o!-ice program includes hand-eye/foot-hand drills to improve reaction time, intense agility, flexibility, balance and endurance training to increase your speed and confi-dence in the net.

CLASSROOM In the classroom coaches will prepare players for all parts of the game. Our coaches will discuss the mental prepara-tion which is needed to become a successful goalie. Daily video critique will be done in a smaller class size. Goalies will make notes in their weekly handbook.

WHY SHOULD YOU GO FOR AN ADULT CAMP?Did you think that hockey camps are only for kids dream-ing about playing in the NHL? We welcome adults of any age and ability to our camp as well, both individually or in whole teams. All you need is a passion for the game. You will see what it´s like to train under professionals!

Czech International Hockeycamp organizes three adult camps every year (including a women’s camp). The pro-gram is nearly identical to the summer kids’ camp: two ice trainings every day, plus strength training and the neces-sary regeneration activities (swimming, sauna, jacuzzi), all in a comfortable environment and under the guidance of experienced professionals.

If your team needs intensive training, but you don’t know where to go, CIH is waiting to serve you. We can recom-mend locations with the best facilities, and also organ-ize designed training camps for hockey teams through-out the year. For any given week we can prepare 6-day camps coached by either the team’s own coach with CIH sta!’s full support or by CIH’s professional hockey instructors, giving you an opportunity to get a taste of the training methods and tactics that make the Czech ice hockey among the best in the world. Training sessions are designed around your team’s performance level, and includes a mini tournament with 2–3 Czech teams chosen by CIH based on your team’s ability. A lot of teams have

taken advantage of this o!er, including a team of RAF pilots serving in Iraq, the She"eld University team, and the Oxford University women’s team.

TRAINING METHODSThe CIHC Adult Camp is o!ered to players 18 years of age and older. Players of all skill levels are welcome into our program. We o!er three skill groups to choose from: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Each group is lim-ited to 20 skaters and 4 goalies. All adult campers will have the option of up to 5 hours of ice time each day! Each group will receive a 1.5 hours training session in the morning, 1.5 hours training session in the afternoon and 1 hour of optional ice in the evening. The optional ice time is available for private lessons and individual skill development every evening. There will be also a dryland and regeneration session each day. Optional recreation-al activities include swimming, football, golf, tennis and roller hockey.

On ice training sessions will emphasize improving individ-ual hockey skills including skating, passing, shooting, stick handling, etc. We will also focus on team play, as all camp-ers will be taught e!ective o!ensive attacks, successful defensive strategies and learn from critiqued, video-taped team scrimmages.

TOURNAMENTSWe organize tournaments for all ages and skills levels. It is a unique opportunity for team to compare it‘s qualities on international scale meeting teams from other coun-tries. We often receive inquiries for tournaments from Ca-nadian, Russian, US amateur or sponsored teams.

Our typical tournament is based on 4-day schedule provid-ing minimum of 6 games followed by play-o!s. All games are watched by 2 Czech Extra League (Czech NHL) ref-erees. In case you like to challenge the “ref‘s” decision from time to time we went ahead and made sure there is nothing to ruin your championship game. The tournament elimination system is similar to IIHF championships with a qualifying round and play-o! session followed by the tournament final games including awards for the winning

teams. Depending on number of registered teams we use multiple ice arenas to which we provide transportation by the camp shuttle or by luxury charter bus. All tournament players receive full sta! support and 4 meals a day, same as in case of training camps. All games are supported by presence of a medical professional sta! member and an interpreter.

TEAM CAMPS

Ice hockey is not a typical women sport. Why did you decide for ice hockey? When I was young, we used to live in a little town called Libochovice and I used to play street hockey outside with my friends. One day my mother’s friend saw me playing and she told me that I should try playing on the ice. I went and tried out and since then they could not take me away from the ice.

What league do you play in the USA?I go to a prep high school in Pennsylvania and we play all prep schools in North America. The league is called NA-PHA which stands for North American Prep Hockey As-sociation.

What are your dreams or goals for the future? My dreams are to get into great college/university and play great hockey and get great education. My other dream is to qualificate with the Czech Women’s National Team for the Olympics in Russia in 2014.

What do you like about the Czech Interna-tional Hockey Camp?I like a lot of things about Czech International Hockey Camp. I love how the kids can meet people from all around

the world and can make new friends from di!erent coun-tries. I like that the language of the camp is English so that the kids try to speak English and it also pushes them to learn English in order to understand. I also like that the coaches are from around the world and not just from the Czech Republic but for example from America.

You´re the only woman coach at the Camp. How is it? Is that really a men´s world?Being the only woman coach at the camp is great and very interesting. It gives me a challange to prove to the guys that girls can also play hockey. Many people think that girls should not play, but if the girls love it, then why should they stop. I do not think that it is only men’s world, but I do think that men get more respect for play-ing hockey than girls just because it is more intense and faster. It is just that girls do not get as much support as boys.

What are your plans for the year 2011?My plans are to get into a great college/university and finish high school and play hockey. I do not really like to plan because every time I have a plan something changes so I leave it alone and see how things turn out.

PLAYER,S

INTERVIEWIn 2010 one of the best Czech ice hockey players joined the coach sta! of the Czech International Hockey Camp. This new assistant coach has showed the campers what it is a hard work to make dreams come true and proved that ice hockey is a passion to be shared. Page 11: Czech International Hockey Camp 2011

In a nutshell, give us a description of your camp. We came up with the idea of doing a summer hockey camp about twelve years ago. Things moved quickly, and after weighing the pros and cons we decided to go for it. Now we are getting ready for our 12th year and I think we’re doing a pretty good job since interest in our camp has been growing every year. Regardless of individual players’ performance we try to o!er each camper the best training environment and professional approach 24 hours a day. We’re an international camp where kids from all over the world train together. Here they can not only improve their playing abilities, but also have a great time, make new friends and learn to live together with people from other countries.

What were the beginnings like, and what has changed since you started? When we were starting it was more like a little family business, 5 coaches and no more than 50 kids. At the time we had no idea that we would someday have ten times that many. There have been changes in our training process as well. At the beginnig each group had 2 hours on the ice in the morning, 2 hours in the afternoon, and open ice in the evening. It was too much. After a couple

of years we switched to a system where the first train-ing focused on skill development is 90 minutes and the second training focused on playing is only 75 minutes. We kept our open ice time in the evening because we’ve had positive experiences with it. Players can practice what they learned during the day or skate with their parents.

Where do you train, and how do you take care of the players?

We’ve been in Nymburk from the very beginning. It’s a town close to Prague where we have absolutely perfect training conditions. Both the ice arena and the sport center next door have been really good to us. We have access to everything they o!er, including massage and regeneration facilities. The players stay either in the hotel next to the ice arena or at the sport center. They get 5 meals a day.

How are the players divided into groups? We divide the players into groups based on their age. At the moment we have four age groups and a special group for goalies. Each group has four trainers and one coun-selor who is responsible for the group when they’re not training.

Since you mentioned the trainers, who are they? Every group is led by an experienced, respected trainer. Goalies are trained by Josef Hovora, a respected name and former national team player. Our dryland coach is Leos Minar who works with the NHL and the top Czech league as a consultant. I should also mention Jakub Petr who trains the Czech junior national team and, of course, Jan Brychta who has been the head coach of the Kuwait National Team. Most of our trainers have the highest achievable licensing and are graduates of the Sports and Physical Education department of Charles University.

Are you preparing anything new for next year? As far as the program is concerned, it will be more or less the same. After our experiment with artificial ice last year we may introduce a few innovations into our train-ing procedures.

COACH INTERVIEW

AMAZING DIRECTOR AND HEAD COACH

LUKAS TRAMBAAfter achieving his Master´s at Sport and Physical Education at Charles Cniversity where he got the internationally recognized licence “A” in ice hockey coaching, he worked in the USA as a Coach at Heartland ice hock-ey camp and as Assistant Coach of Utah Golden Eagles. In the Czech Re-public he has trained junior Extraleague teams and cooperated with the Nike International Hockey Camp. Since 2003 he has been the Head Coach of the Czech International Ice Hockey Camp.

Nearly every ice hockey camp is unique in some way whether in its location, atmosphere or program. We went for a look behind the scenes with the co-founder of the Czech Republic’s best and most successful ice hockey camp, the CIHC Head Coach Lukas Tramba.

DAVID CISARAs a graduate of the Marketing and Management Masters´ Program at Charles University he has worked at several top manager positions within the sport industry. In 2000 he founded the Czech Inter-national Hockey Camp of which he is the director. His motto is: “ Stars are made not born.”

Do you have some pre-game or post-game ritual? Certainly everyone has some kind of ritual, like they do the same things all day before the game, eat the same things, put on the same equipment, stretch the same way during warmups. It’s pretty similar with me too.

Do you celebrate wins after the game a lot? Do they celebrate more in Znojmo or in the NHL? We don’t celebrate wins too much either in the Premiere League or in the NHL. In the NHL there are too many games, so there isn’t even time. There’s only one win you can celebrate, and that’s when you are holding the cup over your head after the finals.

What’s it like to have the Stanley Cup in your hands? Having the Stanley Cup in your hands is great. There’s a lot of hard work behind it, and you have a great feeling from achieving the highest goal in hockey, and the feeling is satisfying and really wonderful.

What NHL team would you like to play for in the future? I’d like to finish my career in New Jersey.

If you were with the New Jersey Devils on a desert island and you didn’t have anything else to eat, who would you eat first and why? That’s a funny question. There’s a couple of guys who take vitamins and di!erent supplements, so one of the guys who eat health food because they would make a good meal and a little would go a long way :-)

After your career ends do you plan to come back to the Czech Republic or will you stay overseas? I’m sorry that I might disappoint you but you have to look to the future, and we’ll see how everything works out. I think it’s probably more realistic that I would stay in the States. But your life can change from day to day.

Last question. What soccer team do you root for? I like the game and I like Barcelona’s performance. I also enjoy watching almost all games of the English league.

How do our campers feel about camps 2010? What did they like? Were they satisfied? The answers to these questions can help you to decide wheter you come to Czech International Hockey Camp or not. That´s why we provide you with the following survey.

How did you like the camp´s training methods?Out of more than 100 players who responded to the question form during summer camps in 2010, more than

85% described the On Ice Training Methods as excellent. Nobody described On Ice Trainings worst than normal. Less than 3% expressed their criticism towards Dryland and Regeneration. Only Dryland Training was described as bad but that was only in one single case.

In total, how did you like the camp? Camps 2010 were in 92% evaluated as excellent and very good. Only 7% chose the answer “normal” and 1% had some complaints about the camps. Out of more than 100

players responding the question form nobody described their satisfaction with the answer “bad”.

Will you come back next year?Out of more than 100 players responding 80% expressed their wish to come next year again. During all of the camps only four players said NO.

WHAT DID THE PARENTS SAY ABOUT OUR CAMPS IN 2010? Camp was very good. Mickey was only USA player and got a true international experience playing with Swiss, Finnish, Russian and German players. Czech coaching style was a nice contrast from USA. And we turned it into a great vaca-tion as well. The sta! of camp is wonderful and it is a very comfortable transition for anyone from North America.

Chris and Mickey McDonagh, USA

Nice little town. People from everywhere. Where are the Austrian Hockey players? Can´t find them! The kids im-proved their play. See you next year!

Angela Breugel, Austria

Just excellent. And please next year I would like Mr Mahovs-ky to be a skating coach for my son next year. He is great.

Nikita, Hockey Club Riga

The on-ice sessions of the goalie camp was well-structured. The coaches´team with the new goalie coach from Nym-burk seemed to me very professional and dedicated. The shooters team was the best team I ve ever seen in my life.

Joe Bruce, USA

Very professional. Good value for money. Limit the num-ber of players. Make sure the kids understand what you say in English. Let them repeat what you said (on the ice) so that they can pay more attention.

Maxmilian Heidengerber, Germany

The kids are motivated and have a lot of fun. The exer-cises are excellent. Nice town. Great days for the kids on/o! ice. Camps in August would be great to stay in shape for the next season.

Ms Lozon, USA

The Czech Republic is my dream country. I have read a lot about succesful Czech ice hockey players and I wanted to help my daugh-ter to be as good as the Czech players are. When I arrived at Nym-burk just everything wass wonderful as I had expected. I hope my daughter got great experience. Thanks the camp. But special thanks to the office staff - especially Tereza and Anna. They are so helpful, friendly, educated and very nice. You guys are helping the parents but I would like to sugest something: coffee maker, mosquito prevention and also think about the cost of transport. This could be the way how to make people even happier.

Nuran Otts, Turkey

Our impression is that it´s a very professional hockey camp. Everybody is doing their job very professionally from the ice coaches to the dryland coach.

Jean Marc Rigolle, Switzerland

Great coaches. Kids loved the camp. We can see a drastic improvement on boys skating and stick handling abilities. Skills regiment was much more demanding then similar programs o!ered in the United States.

Andrew Gabriel, USA
