ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH
Click the banner below for a video on why attendance matters!
Give your student a better chance of success by sending them to school daily and on time!
September is Attendance Awareness Month and we want to remind
families that they are an essential partner in promoting attendance.
School is a students first and most important job, and 80% of
success is showing up. In addition to all of the academics, students
are learning how to show up for school on time every day, so that
when they graduate and get a job, they'll know how to show up for
work. Missing 10% of school days, either excused or unexcused
absences, can result in a student being put at risk of academic
failure and not graduating. Students who attend school regularly
are more likely to graduate and find better jobs, while students who
are chronically absent in any year of high school are 7.4x’s more
likely to drop out. In fact, a high school graduate will make, on
average, a million dollars more than a dropout over a lifetime.

#BeKind21
During the month of September, AUHSD will be participating in the 21 Days to be Kind Challenge.
What's the challenge? Help us make kindness - to ourselves and to our communities - a habit by practicing an act of kindness each day from September 1st to September 21st! Why are we doing this (and why should you join us)? Now more than ever, we need to prioritize the wellness of our own minds and bodies and of our communities. We need to transform the way we care for ourselves and to strengthen the bonds that hold us together - one human to another. Science says, doing something for 21 consecutive days helps turn it into a habit. That’s why Born This Way Foundation is inviting you to join their 21 Days To Be Kind challenge, starting on September 1st, making it a habit to put kindness into action and fostering a culture of compassion and wellness in the process. (Can't start on September 1st? That's ok! Just start your 21 days anytime before September 21st.)
Sign up to get trained in Mental Health First Aid
and learn how to help someone in your life facing
a mental health crisis or challenge.
Visit Born This Way Foundation for more
information and a chance to win two Lady Gaga
tickets to an upcoming show.
Check out what other people are doing for the
challenge and share your own experience with the
hashtag #BeKind21.
