characterized by low pressure at its center and

by circular wind motion, counterclockwise in

the Northern Hemisphere, clockwise in the

Southern Hemisphere. In OTHER words,

something like a hurricane (I think )

How Strong/ Fast: Winds gusting up to 186 miles

per hour (300 kilometers per hour)



Cyclone Yasi Category 5

A terrible natural disaster hit at the city Innisfail

Australia, luckily no one has died during the event,

however the area's banana and sugar cane crops are

thought to be completely destroyed. Townsville resident

Caillin Peacock said that around 80% of trees had gonefrom the streets there and that there was some damage

to buildings, but not any serious damage. A big relief that

no life was taken by Cyclone Yasi, the townsfolk's

prepared for the worst of Yasi, but everything turned outfine for them. A Miracle.



What is a Category 5 Cyclone?

A Category 5 Cyclone is a storm that needs to

sustain winds that are 155 mph or more.

People In This Situation

"The winds here didn't really pick up until midnight; that's when they were

at their worst. It was like having big jet engines outside your house.

You'd have things crashing into your roof.We heard a clicking that

sounded like iron flying in the air, and we thought it was our roof; we

thought it had gone. To be honest, I didn't have much hope for this place.But we were very lucky. We woke up this morning -- I only had around half

an hour's sleep -- and had a look around and our roof actually stayed on.

This is important for us to know because this

is probably possible to occur in the Philippines

and it shows us how things can happen easily

and that we have to be careful at all times

wherever we are.
