cyberbullying

1
Cyberbullying is deadly, literally. Every year, there are numerous unending stories of how cyberbullying forced teenagers and others to their death. No one wants to hear stories of teenagers jumping off a bridge after posting goodbye on the place that caused this suicide: the internet. However, these poor souls that lost their life because of cyberbullying do exist, and part of the problem is the bystanders that refuse to make changes to this World. Being cyberbullied can be traumatizing. People affected by it are, although physically unharmed, mentally scarred. The internet is ever- expanding and never-ending, making sources from one website easily lead to another. And to be humiliated online, many victims will tend to think that everyone will start to see, start to judge, start to hate, and possibly even start to ignore them. This lowers their self- esteem, which in turn leads to even more problems. Some common effects are separations from people, depressing, anxiety… none of which are positive. According to numerous studies, nearly 50% has been bullied before. You can look at this and say, “Well, half the kids have never been cyberbullied before, that’s great!” It’s true. However, this number is not going to stay at 50% if nothing is being done to address it. More and more teenagers and kids will be victims of cyberbullying! Being a bystander by ignoring the statistics will not help you forget about the existence of cyberbullying. Instead, ignoring might even force more of your awareness towards the problem eventually by the constant increase of these victims as technology and electronic communications becomes more advance and accessible. With a wider network of users, the problem will only grow exponentially if not stopped. We cannot wait until the number increases further to take actions on this problem. We have to end our bystander routine and begin to take action now to stop the internet from degrading our youth. In another word, we have to work to protect a positive aura on the internet for future generations. That is why everyone must know the danger of cyberbullying and work together to delete it.
