CONCEPTWHY?

The bicycle is growing as symbol of personal identity and things have come along way since putting a weet-bix footy card in your spokes was the pinnacle of custom modifications.

It’s not unusual to see Joe Everyman or Jane McEverylady riding to school or work on a few thousand dollars worth of personalised bicycle. The high-end bicycle revolution is seeing a lot of the old accessories get tired fast. Riders are hungry for new ways to bling their bike.

Bar ends were brought into BMX from Motor Cross for safety reasons. Really bar ends are there to prevent you from taking a pipe sized plug out of your body in a heavy crash. However like every part of the bike they soon became more status symbol then safety device.

3D Printing is making it possible to produce all types of things more custom and more sexy then ever before. With these new bar ends we are able to brake the mold (because we don’t even need it anymore) of existing options and go for something fresh and exciting, something that can make your bike change when ever you want it.

GETTING THEREHOW?

Bikes excite me and there was no shortage of inspiration for this project. The handle bars are key interface of the bicycle. Placing something on the bars puts it at the finger tips of the rider. Like a Godzilla egg hatching in the last frame of a movie this design shows chance for a sequel.

The threaded lug that is inserted does not need to be limited to bar ends. Any number of accessories can be adapted and created to fit the nifty little unit. Grips, levers, cameras, mirrors, lights, phones, GPS and really anything could find its way onto this attachment.

The following pictures show different prints I used to explore the potential of a range of options.

The finished product is really whatever the customer wants it to be. Parts can be died, anodized, painted, or printed into thousands of colours and combinations. So look at what colours you have on your bike and match to that. We can print personal details like names, race numbers or symbols.

If you don’t like the vibe of the current range the hard CAD has already been done, so just suggest what's more your style and we can add it to the range. The nature of 3D printing means these accessories are going to grow, change and adapt with the market, not get left behind while trying to get full value from injection moulding collateral.

Then dream about how sexy your bike would look with a set and pick up the phone and order some, or a few.
