Brief History • March 1969 Aurora voters approve an $11.7 million bond issue, part of which is
used to build the school.
• Classes began in 1970 at “Aurora VoTech” at a temporary facility with 4 programs and around 200 high school students
• Groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 14, 1971
• Aurora Technical Center Phase I (Bldg A) completed at a cost of $1.6 million & occupied in 1972 offering 17 programs.
• 1974 Aurora Technical Center adds a Post-Secondary program & enrolls 181 post-secondary students.
• 1975, Phase II (Bldg B) opened adding 20 more programs.
• 1979-1980 - renamed “Aurora Public Schools Technical Center”
• October 9, 1984 - renamed “T. H. Pickens Technical Center”
• March 8, 2007 ceremony officially renaming to “Pickens Technical College”. 4

▪ PTC provides Post-secondary Workforce Readiness training and Career and Technical Education in 32 accredited programs within CCCS’s six PWR pathways and is registered with CDOL as an Apprenticehip Training Center ▪ PTC is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE), which places an emphasis on (C)ompletion, (P)lacement & (L)icensure data: we must maintain a minimum of 60% (C), 70% (P) and 70% (L) ▪ Our goal is to ensure that our students have a choice to successfully enter the workforce or continue their education at another institution of higher learning. ▪ Pickens is an Area Technical College

internship and clinical opportunities

• 20 students participated in Internships at local hotels in the Hospitality and Tourism program
• 22 students participated in Early Childhood Education clinicals at Kids Tech
