The website designer was paid $225 by the club and Sharon Booth paid the other half. She is being trained by Josh (designer). Sound System is now at Dave Strobel’s house.

7. New Business: 2015 Budget: A copy of the budget was presented to members with one basic change of a onetime expense for the dressage arena materials of chains and cones. The seed money for events in 2015 was proposed in the budget in the amount of $1000. A motion to approve was made by Suzie Shelton, seconded by Dawn Rinehart. All approved. Bank Account Change: There is no change in the status of the checking account. 8. Events / Calendar: Reports – Updates: none at this time Continuous Drive Update – Report, (volunteers, BODS event vol., etc) Eleven entries have been received and more are expected to arrive soon. President’s Message Drive On!

We all should be taking advantage of our mild

winter weather! My horses are starting to shed

already. My mare, Flower, is starting to show her

pregnancy. With her due date in June, I will be

driving my extra, 13 hand gelding, "Star". If Star

sells to a new home, you will then see Brent and I

driving Jeremiah, our nice mule.

It time for CVHA membership renewal. You can

now join online, though your check must still be sent

to CVHA, P.O. Box 1192, Clovis, CA,93613.

Roger Cleverly can be at Patten Ranch for

instruction in March, the week end of 14/15. For

information on Roger, visit his site, Roger Cleverly

Equestrian Training. Cost will be $50 per session.

Please call me at (559) 298 4124 to reserve your

time, or with any questions.

The Continuous Drive organizing is speeding up!

We still have some available entry spots. .I am

really pleased with the response from our own club.

Phyllis and I are grateful for all the volunteer help in

organizing this event. Thank You Linda Fairbanks

and Thank You Club Members!

Mariposa Pioneer Wagon Train Submitted by Kitty Nasarow Since 1975, the Mariposa County Pioneer Wagon Train has made its historic trek from the Goat Meadow campground in Fish Camp, CA to the Mariposa County Fairgrounds. Following many of the old stage coach roads from the 1800's, the Wagon Train covers this 32 mile trip over the course of three days, camping each night at a different site along the way. We begin with dinner around the campfire on Wednesday night at Goat Meadow, and end on Saturday, with dinner and a western dance at the Historic Van Ness Ranch. The 40th Annual ride will take place June 10-13, 2015. The ride will end at a local ranch on Carleton Road. This will make our Saturday evening dinner a real Western experience! The Wagon Train welcomes participation from owners of wagons and teams, horseback riders, and those who just want to walk the trail, pioneer-style. All participants are encouraged to dress in period costumes on the rides, around the campfires and especially for the Saturday night Dinner/Dance. Recognition will be given for "Most Authentic Attire" so don't be shy. In addition, the public is invited to attend and participate in all evening festivities throughout the three (3) day event. Campfires begin at 5:00 pm along with music and cowboy poetry. If you play an instrument, bring it along. If you are a story teller, bring one to share. Dinner starts at 6:00 pm and raffle drawings are held throughout the evening. So mark your calendars and bring the entire family to a truly unique experience. For photos of past Wagon Train rides and more information, please visit the website at: www.mariposawagontrain.org, or Like us on Facebook! Address any questions to: [email protected]

be held in Norco on Training the Horse, Teaching the

Driver. The next one will be held at her place in

Central Valley Continuous Drives:

CVHA and Brass Oak Driving Society are teaming

up to bring you the Central California Continuous

Drives. Both events will be offered as two separate

competitions in one weekend. The first event will be

February 28th and March 1st at the Fresno County

Horse Park (formerly known as Ram Tap). The

second event will be held May 23rd and 24th at Twin

Rivers Ranch in San Miguel. You may enter one or

all four days, each one is scored as a separate

competition, with separate prizes and also combined

prizes based on best combined score.

The Continuous Drive is a competition comprised

of a 2K Pace Marathon, followed immediately by a

judged Dressage Test, followed immediately by

another 2K Pace Marathon, and followed immediately

by a timed Cones Course. The total time to complete

these things is about an hour. Dress is casual and

comfortable, no fancy clothes, hats or apron/lap robe

is required. Helmets are required for anyone riding or

driving.

Entrants will be scheduled either in the morning or

the afternoon and you and your groom/navigator (if

you have one) will be expected to volunteer for about

2 hours during the part of the day you are not driving.

These events are great for casual competition, or

tune up your turnout for the coming CDE season.

Drive both days and see what you can improve the

second time around!

For more information, please see flyer/entry form

in this issue. There is still room for a few more

entries. If you would like to participate, please get

your entry in right away!

Whiffletree Ranch Spring Fling

Fling March 21-22 at their Whiffletree Ranch in

Madera. This year it will be a Horse Driving Trial

designed for the beginning horseman up to the

teamsters who grew up behind the plow and have

tons of knowledge and skills to share. It is open to

the public and the barns are open displaying the

history of days gone by. Blacksmiths are working at

the forge, teamsters are hooking horses to farm

implements, carts, wagons and carriages. There are

seminars, contests and good food.

sandy soil that drains quickly.

CAA Proficiency Driving Clinic

w/Jane Moody

A CAA Level 1 Proficiency Training Clinic will be

held at Roger Cleverly’s One - Two Carriage Driving,

near Oakdale, on Sunday, April 12. The Instructor

will be Jane Moody. The clinic will be a day of

theory and demonstrations. Attendees do not need

to bring equines, just energy, enthusiasm and an

open mind. Jane has the syllabus on a PowerPoint

presentation that we will screen in the carriage

house. There will be paper copies of the syllabus for

each attendee to take away and work on for the

Evaluation Day.

TWO IDENTICAL EVENTS WITH SEPARATE PRIZES AND A COMBINED PRIZE AS WELL

First comes FRESNO HORSE PARK (known and loved in the past as RamTap)

Drive 2K Pace, then a Dressage test, then another 2K Pace, then a Cones Course AND THEN…

Do it all over the next day to see if you can improve. (You know you can!) AND THEN…

Do the same kind of contest at another venue! (Twin Rivers)

All drivers, riders and navigators are required to volunteer as well

YOU MAY CHOOSE TO ENTER ONLY ONE EVENT OR GET A DISCOUNT FOR ENTERING BOTH EVENTS

What is a CONTINUOUS DRIVE? It is a competition wherein each turnout drives a 2k pace marathon, followed

immediately by a Dressage test, followed immediately by another 2k pace marathon, followed immediately by a cones

course. The total time to complete these things is about an hour. You will be scheduled to drive (or ride if entered as a

rider) either in the morning or the afternoon and you and your groom/navigator (if you have one) will be expected to

volunteer for about 2 hours during the part of the day you are not driving. There is plenty of social time built in too!

Riders are invited to compete in pairs over the same course and with the same pace time calculation (trot).

Then why is it 2 days long? Because each turnout drives the same course on the second day to see if they can improve

their score.

What do you mean by “two part series”? On May 23-24 the Brass Oak Driving Society will hold the same event at Twin

Rivers in San Miguel and there are advantages to entering both events, such as a $50.00 discount on your total entry

fees plus prizes for best combined score. Your discount will be applied when you enter the Brass Oak event.

What should I wear? Comfortable clothing. No laprobe or fancy hat required. Helmets are required.

House rules: All dogs on a leash in the stabling and parking areas. No dogs in the dining area except service dogs.

Horses must be bridled with reins through turrets anytime the horse is between the shafts or attached to a carriage.

Never leave a horse unattended while hitched. Never be inattentive or out of reach of a partially hitched horse.

Helmets are required for anyone riding or driving. Safety check will be scheduled at the beginning of your warm up

time each day. The courses are to be used at scheduled times only and only by drivers who are entered in the event.

What dressage test are you using? Training Level Test 4, Preliminary Level Test 3, Intermediate level Test 5

Who is the dressage judge? Central Valley is using Ronda McPherson, Advanced level driver and fun person.

Brass Oak Driving Society is using Diane Kastama, world champion international competitor and fun person.

What is the Cancellation Policy? Full refund before closing date. Refund minus $25.00 office fee upon receipt of a

veterinary letter regarding unsoundness of horse. Other reasons subject to Organizer discretion.
