I am one of two students from a class of sixteen who were nominated to be a member of “College Connect”, GCU’s Associate Student Scheme which allows me the use of the university’s facilities while at college but also direct entry into third year of the “Electrical and Electronic Engineering” course at Glasgow Caledonian University.

I am currently in the process of completing my Graded Unit project which is a PLD based alarm system. Aimed to be utilised in hospitals and nursing homes, staff will be notified when a patient leaves their bed. My idea has prompted my lecturer to suggest I submit my project to the Scottish Institute for Enterprise “Young Innovators Competition”. The following will be delivered by the 29th of May;

1. PLD based alarm system with Bluetooth connectivity2. Hard and soft copies of all hardware/software3. A 10 minute audio/visual PowerPoint presentation on my project4. A detailed project design folio contained in an A4 lever arch file5. A 5000 word minimum, typed project report6. Individual hard-backed log book

Work Experience

BSKYB, UddingstonJan 2013 - PresentSales Advisor

I took the opportunity to work for Sky TV as a customer service expert, which was a good decision as I was entitled to a greater reward scheme (private dental/healthcare, monthly bonus, free Sky television and broadband). I am trained to deal with technical, billing and general customer issues. In 2014 I won an award for my work at the annual “Shine Awards” which is a black-tie, red carpet event which was held at “Our Dynamic Earth” building in Edinburgh. To win the award I had performed better than thousands of members of staff throughout Scotland and the north of England.I currently work here part-time as I complete my studies in electronics.

Tesco, Parkhead, KirkintillochFeb 2007 – Jan 2013Store Assistant

I was trained in several different parts of the store including; checkouts were I am dealing with money and customers face to face. Dairy department, Back Door assistant where the deliveries are received and the Deli counter. All aspects of working in Tesco require team working skills, the ability to follow instructions, being of presentable appearance and being patient and polite with the public.

I obtained a transfer to a larger store when I moved into a flat in Glasgow. This helped to develop my skills in a new environment and advance my career within Tesco. I was given more duties and responsibilities such as staff rotas, attending meetings and was acting team leader for the department in a support capacity.

WDS Maintenance Ltd.Mar 2005 – Feb 2007Laborer

I travelled all over the greater Glasgow area taking on many varied jobs such as plastering, brick lying, deconstruction and general laboring. I would often work with lots of different people. I was able to follow instructions and my people skills were developed.
