ALABAMA CONSTITUTION VILLAGE 109 Gates Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35801 | 256.564.8100 | earlyworks.com

Hear the whirl of the spinning wheel...smell the enticing aroma of freshly baked bread being prepared over an open fire...turn the great

wheel lathe in the cabinetmaker’s shop...and visit with villagers busy with their daily tasks, seemingly unaware that nearly two centuries have

come and gone. Alabama Constitution Village dates back to 1819 and is the actual site where 44 delegates gathered to forge the way for

Alabama’s statehood. Become immersed in history as villagers dressed in period clothing take you through eight reconstructed Federal-style

buildings and explore what urban life was like in 19th-century Alabama.

SOUTHERN VITTLES IN THE VILLAGE Your group will savor a real southern dinner amid the charm and history of the Village.

BUZZSAWS AND BBQ IN THE VILLAGE Enjoy a BBQ dinner and live folk music in the Village Cabinet Shop.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES:During December, the Village is transformed into Santa’s Village, the place Santa calls home during the holidays. Performance groups ranging

from choirs, musicians, dance studios, etc. may perform every night on the Tinsel Tunes Stage. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator 256.564.8122

19th-century log houses including barnyard and animals, and finally throw in the artistic side with concerts, plays and exhibits, and you have

a delightful mixture of history, culture and the outdoors. In 1955, Dr. Burritt willed his mansion and surrounding 167 acres of land to the

city of Huntsville, making Burritt on the Mountain the city’s first museum. The historic site interprets the past by showcasing various aspects

of farm life from the 19th century.

CITY LIGHTS & STARSThis concert series features casual outdoor concerts at Burritt on the Mountain on six Friday evenings during May, June, July and August.

Bring your own picnic or order ahead.

MURDER IN THE MANSIONEnjoy touring the museum, but be careful because sinister things are happening! A murder mystery is the game. The Burritt Mansion will

witness a crime most foul, and you can be there! Guests receive a character description in advance, which is necessary for participation in

a night full of surprises, danger and lots of laughter.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES: Contact the Educational Director about performing during the Heritage Festival in October, Spring Farm Days in April, Kris Kringle’s Candlelight

Christmas and other events.

EARLYWORKS CHILDREN’S MUSEUM404 Madison Street, Huntsville, AL 35801 | 256.564.8100 | earlyworks.com

smile away. Listen as the 16-foot talking tree tells folktales. Push the buttons on the EarlyWorks bandstand to enjoy toe-tapping tunes made

popular by Alabama musicians. Discover Alabama’s river life and waterways on the life-size floating keelboat. Try on costumes similar to

those worn in the 19th century, sack crops at the General Store, and explore the log cabin, Federal and Victorian style houses.

HISTORIC HUNTSVILLE DEPOT320 Church Street, Huntsville, AL 35801 | 256.564.8100 | earlyworks.com

One of the South’s oldest railroad passenger depots and now a lively transportation museum, the Historic Depot served as the local passenger house

and corporate offices for the eastern division headquarters of the Memphis & Charleston Railroad and was used as an active passenger station until

1968. The building is well-preserved and appears much as it did in 1860. Graffiti on three walls of the upper story is a result of the building’s role as a

prison for captured Confederate militia, as a billet for Union troops en route to major battles and as a hospital for the wounded from those battles.

on and off, for three years. Spies, Lies and Alibis is a well-researched compilation of stories such as the pro-Union man who nailed an

American flag to his roof and spied on his neighbors; the fate of six brothers who fought for the Confederacy; the Huntsville native who

ordered the first shot fired at Ft. Sumter and many more. Take the Civil War Bones tour through Maple Hill Cemetery and see the grave of

Abraham Lincoln’s brother-in-law; “General J,” a Union officer who fell in love with a local girl and married her; the man whose dramatic

escape from a Union prison was detailed in the secret diary he kept and many more. If something a little lighter sounds more fun, take the

Mischief and Mayhem Tour and hear, among other things, about the downtown hamburger restaurant that offered “home delivery” of

NS

HUB & SPOKEHuntsville is a convenient hub for meeting our neighbors in the beautiful North Alabama Mountain Lakes region. Take circle tours that extend

to the west to see the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and Ivy Green, Birthplace of Helen Keller and the Rattlesnake Saloon. Birthplace shrines

honor “father of the blues” W.C. Handy and Olympian Jesse Owens. Sample cheeses recommended by the Food Network and Southern Living

at Belle Chevre Creamery and Humble Heart Farms. Visit Hamilton where potter Jerry Brown creates “ugly jugs” at his studio and explore the

wonders of “The Dismals.” Tour the newly restored home of Fighting Joe Wheeler and the Blue and Gray Museum. Frolic in the nation’s first

wave pool at Decatur’s Point Mallard. Walk down the shaded streets of historic Mooresville and dine at the Limestone Bay Trading Company.

Ride east to Cathedral Caverns and see the world’s largest stalagmite, shop the unique Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro, and enjoy

the scenery and extreme adventures of Little River Canyon. Go south for the charming Ave Maria Grotto in Cullman and the magnificent

Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville. The scenic beauty of Lake Guntersville State Park, the covered bridges near Oneonta

and Gadsden’s Noccalula Falls are worth the drive. Head north to the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee and Prichard’s Distillery

in nearby Kelso, Tennessee. Sample Napa Valley and European quality wines at Amber Falls Winery and Cellars and Natchez Hills Winery and Vineyards in Hampshire, Tennessee.

Customized, multi-city itineraries can be developed to make your tour meet the needs of your group.
