PhD SYNOPSIS AND RESEARCH INTERESTSI am an active researcher engaged in both academic publication and creative practice/collaboration. My thesis draws on

the notion of the Post-Internet as a framework for analysing art, identity and music online, studying the impact of today’s

omnipresent digital devices on society, culture and the self. The Post-Internet refers to the symbiotic relationship that

people have with technological devices, illuminating collapsing boundaries between digitality and physicality. My thesis

analyses artists, media practitioners and musicians whose output embraces the Post-Internet and the potential for social

media as a platform for exploring contemporary identity, and incorporates interviews with fifteen key artists. I have a

journal article about Post-Internet music set to be published in Popular Music in 2017, a chapter set to be published in 40

Years of Mute Records in 2018. and am in negotiations to publish my thesis with Ashgate. I collaborate creatively with

interviewees beyond academia who emphasise the influence of my research on their output. I was a keynote speaker at

Berlin's 2016 3hd Festival, an arts festival centred on issues of digitality and identity, and collaborated with many artists at

the event. Arca (Björk/Kanye West producer) invited me to write the press release for 2015 album Mutant (Mute). I am

collaborating with Jesse Kanda on his video installation as part of Hull's City of Culture 2017 celebrations and am working

alongside composer Jennifer Walshe to organise a set of Post-Internet talks and exhibitions at Somerset House. I

produced programme notes for a Post-Internet music showcase at 2015’s London Contemporary Music Festival. This

knowledge exchange and creative research practice shows I am gaining recognition with, and inspiring the output of,

major contemporary practitioners.
