Page 1: CV short 2

Since 1971, this Valencia designer, born in 1950, has lived and worked in Barcelona. The two Medi-

terranean cities have been the inspiration for the colour, the light and the character of all his work.

Like the great interdisciplinary designer he is, he is able to put on several hats —one for each

activity— and he feels quite at home in all of them, always applying his ironic, fresh outlook.

Javier Mariscal’s work includes Cobi, the mascot for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, a dog that

changed all the rules. As a designer of objects, he has worked for companies like Moroso, Alessi,

Lalique, Magis, Camper, Phaidon and Uno Design. He also created Twipsy, the mascot for the 2000

Universal Exposition in Hanover and the cartoon series starring the mascot, which was shown in

more than a hundred countries. As an interior designer, he has recently designed the H&M store in

Barcelona, the Gran Hotel Domine in Bilbao and one of the floors of the Hotel Puerta América in

Madrid. He is responsible for the image and communication of Camper for Kids and the Barcelona

International Boat Show. In 2009, he presented a retrospective exhibition in the Design Museum

of London, two monographic books about his work, Mariscal Drawing Life (Phaidon) and Sketches

(Nova Era). At the end of 2010, he will premiere a full-length cartoon film Chico & Rita which he has

jointly directed with Fernando Trueba.
