CV, Portfolio & Projects >> In the last 12 years I’ve gained experience in the realms of agency-side advertising, in-house creative departments, designed platforms at a startup, and taught visual design at a collegiate level. My skillset runs the gamut from UI/UX digital platforms, branding, and web design. I have managed and contributed to teams with empathy and collaboration. I have a voracious curiosity, rigorous work ethic, and dedication to design. I approach every project with a beginner’s mind, where my professional experience informs but does not mold my output. In Fall 2019 I will matriculate into Pratt’s Design Management masters program. The curriculum is structured so that what is learned in class can be applied to the program and vice versa. In the last 12 years I’ve gained experience in the realms of agency-side advertising, in-house creative departments, designed platforms at a startup, and taught visual design at a collegiate level. My skillset runs the gamut from UI/UX digital platforms, branding, and web design. I have managed and contributed to teams with empathy and collaboration. I designed deliverables for digital and print projects including infographics, full mobile apps, new business decks, websites, logos, social posts, brochures, and augmented-reality interactive wall graphics. The programming-based product management workflow inherent to a public relations agency has positively influenced my practice – we flow through from rapid prototyping to refinement.

Before GCI I worked for Tritan Collective. I designed apps, laid out investor decks, and helped direct branding. Tritan is a small independently-owned agency that works directly with product producing startups on their platform design, branding, pitch decks, and helps connect them with funding.

Prior to Tritan I spent a few years in-house with the luxury textile company Cowtan & Tout where I propelled collection launches into the hands of interior designers with contributions in design within the marketing department. Cowtan & Tout US operating company of London-based Colefax Group PLCVisual Marketing Coordinator 2013 - 2015. New York, NY.I collaborated with the CEO, marketing, and sampling departments to propel the luxury textile house Cowtan & Tout’s quinterly collection launches into the hands of interior designers. Contributions entailed assisting with collection launch timelines, visual merchandising, windows, and showrooms (real-life UX), designed trade show booths and managing logistics, presenting to publication editors, and assisting laying out ads for publications such as T Magazine & Architectural Digest.

Chesapeake Energy CorporationArt Director 2013. Oklahoma City, OK.Planned brand management within the natural gas and energy exploration field in a B2B capacity, managed communication to give a sense of transparency to consumers on a B2C level, and created collateral within the Chesapeake community.

ACM@UCO The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central OklahomaAdjunct Professor 2011 - 2013. Oklahoma City, OK.I created the curriculum and taught the course Print Marketing for the Music Industry – a visual design course for music business majors. This branch of the London University Academy of Contemporary Music was founded by Scott Booker, manager of Grammy-winning band the Flaming Lips.

StaplegunArt Director 2011 - 2013. Oklahoma City, OK.I helped transform this business from a regional, boutique creative studio into a full-service advertising agency with national clients in healthcare, consumer and hospitality services, non-profit, and government agencies. I was lead Art Director for our most lucrative national retainer client, At The Beach. I gained experience with integrated campaign planning, copywriting, project management, and creating decks to answer RFPs.

Toyscapes // The Exchange: An Events RevolutionDesign Director & Event Producer 2010 - 2011. Oklahoma City, OK.This non-profit event production agency was instrumental in reviving the Oklahoma City art community. I created event collateral and environmental design, as well as assisting with event production on an exhibition where Oklahoma City was replicated with Legos®. The proceeds from the exhibition went to benefit the early childhood education nonprofit Educare. Toyscapes pivoted to a for-profit company called The Exchange: An Events Revolution. I contributed to the rebrand and continued my design duties.

Art Show at The ExchangeThe Exchange. 2011. Oklahoma City, OK.In Oklahoma City I saw a surplus of creative talent but a dearth of representation or art market. At the time I was Design Director at The Exchange and our office was in a beautiful space on Film Row. I asked the president of the company if I could organize an art show in the chic space. The event I produced featured 15 under-represented artists. Through our network we managed to get a local restaurant to cater and a live DJ to create ambiance. One of the artists represented photographed the event and we received excellent media coverage.

MomentumThe Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition | OVAC. 2007 & 2011. Oklahoma City, OK.Momentum is an annual art show for Oklahoma artists under 30 organized by OVAC, the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition. White Walls is a social e-commerce mobile platform that will empower artists to represent themselves and connect with art aficionados to cover their white walls. The platform will provide a personal connections through artist profiles and upfront pricing. It is important to me, once a young art student in Oklahoma, to free artists from an inaccessible gallery system and to help find enthusiastic buyers for their work. The platform will appear exclusive but aim for inclusive and egalitarian representation. I am currently building the UI, UX, and prototyping.

The social mission is to finally give artists sovereignty over their oeuvre. By democratizing their ability for self-representation and empowering artists who don’t have connections or access to the gallery system, we can provide a platform that fosters the talent and generates exposure. This is critical for artists who are based in regions that don’t have an art market, lack resources, or whose ethnicity or gender are underrepresented in the art world due to structural societal inequalities.

Art Buying Habits: Taniya almost bought something from an artist on Instagram the other day but was discouraged by the many steps. She had to go to their website and even if she messaged them then she’d have to negotiate price. She would’ve liked it if the price point were up-front.

She doesn’t want to undervalue or disrespect an artist but also has a budget.

They are on the older side of the millennial spectrum, finally have a smidge of disposible income, and are settled in their home. It’s meaningful for them to support local artists and want unique conversation starters since they love to entertain in their home.

Challenge

The account SVP and I discussed the heirarchy of information and sketched user flow. I am fluent with Pfizer’s brand standards and considered them when first creating personas, wireframes then high-fidelity prototypes. The approvals went from our internal account lead to Pfizer to legal and back again.

Process

Pfizer was very pelased with the deliverable as a static information dense tool to help visualize the program for themselves and their patients. I wish we had more lead time to conduct more user research, create affinity maps based on the research, and evolve the product to be an even more robust tool through time through review of the analytics. It also would’ve been nice to imbue the tool with more discovery, interaction, and delight.

Pfizer World Headquarters Windows with ARI designed large-scale vinyl window coverings for Pfizer’s New York World Headquarters. The

project featured a Blippar augmented reality function outlining the company’s global health initiatives, such as eradicating trachoma and other

NTDs (neglected tropical diseases) in the developing world. This is one of the initiatives Pfizer partners with the UN for on the Sustainable Development Goals.

Team Members

A pain point was updating the augmented reality backend whenever there was a window edit, but the client’s needs were straightforward and their photoshoot and partnership with the UN’s Global Goals informed the type treatment.

Challenge

I recieved copy and onsite images from the locations where Pfizer is working to eradicate trachoma from the account team. This project was one piece of Pfizer’s partnership with the Global Goals so it had to be aligned with booths I’d designed for SXSW and Atlantic Media’s conference. I learned the augmented reality app Blippar and viewers could access additional videos and infographics about how Pfizer is working to eradicate trachoma.

Process

The windows were well-recieved but I monitored the analytics in the backend of the augmented reality app and few people were downloading the app to view the additional content as they walked down busy 42nd Street. We continued to do augmented reality yet it was difficult to implement it in situations that were more ripe for engagment.

OVAC Oklahoma Visual Arts CoalitionMomentum Art Show CollateralMomentum is an annual art show for Oklahoma artists under 30 organized by OVAC, the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition. I designed the 2012 visual identity and had three large-scale paintings selected for exhibition. To create the type treatment for the title I cut and assembled balsa wood then photographed it.

The mission of Creative Oklahoma is to develop, promote and celebrate Oklahoma’s creativity and innovation in education, commerce and culture. The purpose of Creative Oklahoma is to inspire, catalyze and promote ideas that lead to a more vibrant economy and improved quality of life. I worked with an another art director and the creative director on the initial branding. The campaign also included a tagline and website dubbing Oklahoma the “state of creativity.”

In my 2 yeasrs at Cowtan I designed the collection books, laid out ads for publications such as Architectural Digest and World of Interiors, booths for tradeshow HD Expo, merchandised 13 showrooms and their showroom windows, as well as the wayfinding signage for the Washington Design Center in DC.

Guernseybrand standards, business system, environmental signage, responsive & mobile site

For decades, C.H. Guernsey and Company branded itself with a “G” reminiscent of the Green Bay Packers’ logo. We proposed a simplified name and an evolved “G” mark. The new logo provides brand differentiation with a conceptual foundation: the three unbroken sides of the square represent its three divisions (consulting, engineering and architecture), while the fourth has a line leading to the center to create the “G.” This side represents Guernsey’s clients, symbolically placing them at the center of the mark. The comprehensive identity was a collaborative endeavor with two other art directors & a creative director.
