2R01AG030611-04 (Wolf) 3/1/2011–2/29/2016 $3,021,045 NIA LITCOG II: Health Literacy and Cognitive Function among Older Adults The proposed longitudinal study will provide an in-depth investigation of older adults’ health literacy and ability to manage health, and whether these skills are affected by cognitive decline and the aging process. Our research will improve our understanding of the true barriers underlying the problem of low health literacy, and how best to inform present and future intervention strategies. Role: PI R01HL116630-01A1 (Wolf) 08/08/13 – 7/31/16 $896,329 NHLBI Refining Conceptual Models for the Role of Health Literacy in Health Outcomes Our study objectives are to improve our understanding of (1) the causal pathways linking health literacy to health outcomes by testing an existing conceptual framework, and (2) the role of health literacy in explaining health disparities. Role: Multiple-PI Agreement 9/5/13 (Wolf) 09/04/13 – 02/28/16 Merck Sharp and Dohme Corp. Promoting the Universal Medication Schedule via Mobile and EHR Technologies The goal of this project is to leverage increasingly available technologies to impart a Universal Medication Schedule (UMS) in primary care to help patients consolidate, safely use, and adhere to complex drug regimens. Role: PI Agreement (Wolf) 04/01/13 – renewable (annual) Merck Sharp and Dohme Corp. Design and Evaluation of Patient Information for Prescription Medication Products The goal of this project is to develop new content and formats for new prescription medication products that best convey information on safe use for patients. Further, we will consult on the evaluation and outcomes measurement of these tools. Role: PI

By describing the vicissitudes of health literacy, the study will identify the contexts in which intensive interventions are needed to adequately support self-care for COPD.
