EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

Aveng Grinaker-LTA (AGLTA), March 1993 to Present :

Division/Bus. Unit : Aveng Grinaker-LTA Mechanical & Electrical Bus. Unit

Position Held : Operations Executive – Kusilie Power Station

Date of service : September 2015 to present

Duties

After the successful completion of our works at the Medupi Power Station which is an exact copy of the Kusile Coal Fired Power Station both our Client/Partner (Alstom/GE) and the AGLTA M&E Snr Management asked me to go to Kusile Power Station to carry out the same function, roles and responsibilities that I had been doing at Medupi for the preceding two years (see details below under Medupi). Our work at Kusile will be coming to an end at the end of November 2016.

Note: Alstom/GE are the EPC Contractor for all the mechanical, piping and E&I works at both power stations which each have 6 units. They are also the Technology supplier for both. AGLTA are the Construction Partner to Alstom/GE.

Division/Bus. Unit : Aveng Grinaker-LTA Mechanical & Electrical Bus. Unit

Position Held : Operations Executive – Medupi Power Station

Date of service : September 2013 to September 2015

Duties

The M&E Business Unit of Grinaker-LTA had a cost reimbursable partnership with Alstom/GE for the installation of piping, mechanicals, instrumentation & electrical, painting and insulation for the Medupi Power Station Turbine Hall and External Works. The contract value was over R1 Billion. I was based on site full time acting as the Partnership’s Project Manager. Responsible for all the Project Management functions I had a full team of site management, commercial team, procurement team, administration team, HR/IR team as well as office staff. The total complement on site up until the end of December 2013 was 920 people, this was reduced through a demobilization process and ended up being 480 people. The IR/Union issues around the demobilization process were very challenging and IR generally at Medupi is

problematic. Dealing with the Union (up to Regional and National Representatives) have been part of my duties.Being involved with the M&E at Medupi has taken me back to my roots as I started my career as a Mechanical Engineer, the pipefitting and welding of many different exotic materials, as well as all the necessary QA/QC which goes with it has been of great interest.

Date of Service : March 2011 to June 2011

After returning from Libya I was asked to research the Qatar market. Qatar had just been awarded the 2022 Soccer World Cup and after our Stadia Construction experience for the 2010 SA World Cup it was felt that there could be opportunities in

Qatar for the Group. After a visit to Doha in Qatar I wrote an extensive report on “doing business in Qatar”. This included some extensive research on the main families in the country and their businesses with a view to helping us decide on the right sponsor, should we decide to establish in country

Division/Bus. Unit : Aveng Africa (reporting through its Grinaker-LTA business) Position Held : Branch Manager – Aveng Grinaker-LTA Libya.

Date of Service : January 2011 to February 2011

History

I was involved in the research work done on Libya for the Aveng Group since February 2010, with various trips up to Libya for various lengths of time from February to December 2010. From January 2011 I was stationed in Tripoli full time as Branch Manager, representing the Aveng Group, but had to leave when the revolution started at the end of February. Research work was complete and a Business Plan was produced and approved by the Grinaker-lta and Aveng Boards prior to moving to Tripoli. Similar to my time in Tanzania, much of the work I did was done on the Business Development side, forming relationships and chasing leads. Also understanding the statuary requirements and re-registering our company. The culture is completely different to anything I had experienced before and gave me a valuable insight into how things work in North Africa and the Middle East.

May – December 2010

During this period I was not only involved with the Libya research but also continued my responsibilities as part of the Civil Engineering Business Unit Management Team. This included being part of the Growth Forum.

Division/Bus. Unit : GROUND ENGINEERING (GEL) who are the Geotechnical Division of Aveng Grinaker-LTA

Position Held : General Manager (Director)

Dates of Service : March 1993 to April 2010

Brief History (and the start of my career with Grinaker-LTA)

In March 1993 GEL offered me the position of Branch Manager Natal and Coastal. Based in Durban, this covered the coastal region from Mozambique to Namibia. I was based in Durban for 11 years before moving up to Johannesburg. During my time in Durban I was fully responsible for GEL’s business from securing work to final payment certificate, claims, negotiations etc. During this time GEL was involved in some of the

Page 5: CV Ken Jones Oct 2016

biggest projects that they had ever carried out i.e. Alusaf Piling, Mozal Piling, Gateway Shopping Centre Piling, Suncoast Casino Piling, Durban Harbour Piling to name but a few.

Things were not going well with GEL in Johannesburg and in 2003 I was asked to move to JHB to become Contracts Director for all their RSA operations. My understudy in Durban became the new Durban Branch Manager and both he and the Inland Branch Manager reported to me.

Around this time I realised there were opportunities in the Dam Grouting field which GEL had not been involved in for some 15 years. A lot of my experience with Rodio who I worked for previously was in Dam Foundation Grouting. GEL has now done many Large Dam Foundation Grouting projects including Massinger Dam in MZB, Berg River Dam, LUSIP Dam in Swaziland and the two Dams for the Ingula Pump Storage Scheme close to Ladysmith (probably the biggest Dam Grouting job done in RSA) as well as many other smaller dams. GEL together with Rodio Geotechnics is now recognized as the market leaders in RSA when it comes to Dam Foundation Grouting. This is a highly technical and specialised part of the geotechnical contracting business.

In 2005 I was promoted to General Manager of Ground Engineering. This obviously included managing the whole of the GEL business. Important to note that running GEL was running a Business and not just a project or projects. Although in the overall Grinaker-LTA scheme of things GEL’s projects are small in terms of monetary value each project no matter what size has a start-up and close out as well as a different Client, Consultant and PQS to deal with and manage.

Shortly after becoming the General Manager of Ground Engineering (which is part of the Civil Engineering Business Unit), I was made a Director and Board member of the Civils Business Unit. As part of the Exco I was involved in all the strategic decisions made by the Board as well as being involved in the yearly Strategic Planning Sessions and submissions and major tender finalisation Exco’s/ tender risk analysis sessions.

During my 17 years with GEL I gained extensive experience in management, leadership, marketing, strategic planning, negotiating, contracting, commercial side of contracting including all the different forms of contract documents both civil and building etc., etc… Most of GEL’s work was done as a subcontractor to Building, Civil and Earthworks Main Contractors. This has given me the on-site multi-disciplinary knowledge of the above 3 disciplines e.g. various major earthworks, mainly Earth Fill Dams (core trench with clay core), Rock fill Dams with Concrete Face (Berg River and Ingula), Rollcrete Dams (LUSIP, Knelport, Ingula) and Concrete Arch. Many, many building projects including Gateway Shopping Centre in Durban as well as many other shopping malls and high rise buildings which include piling and bulk earthworks/lateral support for basements. On the Civil’s side, many industrial/petro chemical civils sites, structures such as various types of bridges including the Malibamatsu Bridge in Lesotho, the Nelson Mandela Bridge and the Harper Road Bridge to name but a few.

Employer : RODIO SOUTH AFRICA (GEOTECHNICAL CONTRACTORS)

Positions Held : Started as a Trainee Site EngineerBecame a Site AgentThen a Contracts Manager

Then Branch Manager of the Eastern CapeThen Lesotho Branch Manager, Mainly working on the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, Dams and Tunnels.

Date of Service : October 1982 to February 1993

Brief History

I joined Rodio in Cape Town, they were looking for a Mechanical Engineer (geotechnical work is very plant orientated, including design and manufacture of special platforms etc.) that could pick up the geotechnical side of the business. I was 22 years old at the time.

In 1983 I moved to the Eastern Cape to work on two large dam projects (grouting), once complete I relocated to East London and became Branch Manager of the Eastern Cape Region.

In 1986 we picked up most of the geotechnical drilling investigation work for Phase 1 of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. I was then asked to go to Lesotho and eventually I became Branch Manager of Rogel Lesotho. Rodio and GEL had a permanent JV in Lesotho. GEL Management asked me to join them to run their SA coastal operations in 1993 and I left Rodio.

The various contracts with Rodio can be split into two categories :

a) Civils Contracts - Curtain, Blanket and Contact Grouting of various Dams and Tunnels. Highly specialised grouting techniques, including both the “Holsby” Method and the GIN method developed by Lombadi, hands on supervision and management.

Precementation of shafts for tunnels as well as underground work in tunnels to stop water ingress.

Installation of rock anchors for slope stabilization, bridge piers etc. Shotcrete, soil nails and rock bolts for lateral support for road cuts,

building basements etc.

b) Geotechnical Drilling Contracts – Various geotechnical drilling investigations including the largest geotechnical investigation ever undertaken in Southern Africa which was for the Katse Dam, the Transfer and Delivery Tunnels on the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. Contract value was R9 million (1985). 10,000m of geotechnical drilling and testing was carried out in a 10 month
