Phone: 0409 186 793 E-Mail: [email protected] Education The University of Adelaide — Doctor of Philosophy (English Literature) (2011-2016) My research explored the employment of visual culture materials in English poetry written during the Second Anglo-Dutch War (1662-4). With a focus on Edmund Waller’s Instructions to a Painter (1665), Andrew Marvell’s The Last Instructions to a Painter (1667), and John Dryden’s Annus Mirabilis (1667), I argued that different (metaphoric) approaches to perspective reflect the stylistic differences between Italian Renaissance and Dutch painting traditions as they were deployed for praise and blame respectively. I studied how the metaphoric aesthetic techniques deployed in these poems overlap with theoretical developments in natural philosophy and new ways of seeing made available with the emergence of optical instruments such as the telescope and the microscope. Education

The University of Adelaide — Doctor of Philosophy (English Literature) (2011-2016)

Professional training and development

Taught into first year English literature subject “Ideas of the Real” (Semester 1 2014). The course covered a variety of 19th and 20th century texts with major themes being Realism, Modernism and Postmodernism. In Semester 2 2014 I taught into the first year English Shakespeare subject. In each subject I tutored four weekly tutorials with a total of 80 students.

Reviewed Katherine Acheson’s book “Visual Rhetoric and Early Modern English Literature” — published in literary journal Parergon 2014.

Assisted with essay marking for the English Department’s second/third year Renaissance Writing course (Oct 2013).

Completed Advanced Grammar Course through Adelaide University’s Department of the Professions — 4 x 2 hr. sessions (Aug 2013).

University of Adelaide – English tutor (Mar- Nov 2014).

Tutored four classes (total 80 students) in the First Year English Subjects “Ideas of the Real” (Semester 1) and “Shakespeare” (Semester 2). This involved following session plan outlined by course coordinator and included: Planning class activities and readings; reviewing lecture content; essay marking and feedback and handling student queries.

The Messenger Newspaper (News Ltd Adelaide) – Account Manager (Mar 2011-Sept 2011).

This was an office-based sales role, with a folio of clients from retail, hospitality and motoring sectors. Work involved cold/warm calling and phone sales, reporting, record keeping and account planning. I worked in partnership with an on road sales representative to ensure optimal client contact.

Quest Software – Sales Associate/ Account Manager (Sept 2009 – Feb 2011)

Quest is a global, US based Enterprise Software Company (recently acquired by Microsoft), which specialised in database, application, Windows management and virtualisation solutions designed to simplify the management of complex IT environments.

I began at Quest as a Sales Associate, which involved assisting the sales and marketing teams by calling leads generated from technical briefs, whitepapers, and trial downloads. This role also involved order processing, attending marketing events and generally assisting with customer enquiries. In April 2010 I moved into an Account Management role, coordinating support and upgrade renewals on licenses for all existing clients in NSW and VIC. This involved generating asset lists; creating, sending and following up quotations via phone or email; combining renewals quotations and arranging support overrides where necessary. I have worked alongside the sales, procurement, accounts and licensing departments.

Sensis (subsidiary of Telstra) — Advertising Data Specialist (Nov 2007 – Aug 2009)

Sensis produces the White and Yellow pages directories, along with a number of information services including CitySearch, Sensis 1234, Trading Post, and Universal Publishers.

I worked as an Advertising Data Specialist in the print operations department for both Yellow and White Pages divisions keying contracts for sales consultants. This involved extensive and ongoing training in a variety of different work types; regular feedback and process updates designed to ensure very high levels of accuracy; high throughput, and minimal turnaround time for customers. This role also involved regular liaison with sales consultants, sales contract coordinators, management, artists, editors and other third parties for query resolution, and quality insurance.

Throughout 2008 I was an active member of the Print Social Committee. This involved organising raffles, and taking ownership for various social events including an Australia Day BBQ and cricket in the park for one hundred people.

I also completed several (optional) internal Sensis courses, including editing Sensis intranet content, Power Point and Microsoft Word and volunteered in the CitySearch department, reviewing cultural exhibitions around Melbourne for online publication.

Other Employment (2011-2016)

Whilst completing my PhD thesis, I supplemented my scholarship income with part-time work in retail with Officeworks and National Pharmacies in Adelaide.
