Initially responsible for 5 Warehouses based in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban and Johannesburg with a stock value of R 20 Million. Four warehouses were closed down. (All warehousing was outsourced to agents).
Responsible for coordination of health and safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) at various production plants on a national basis.
Implemented Lanxess International HSEQ requirements. Investigated incidents and accidents. Negotiated transport rates. Audited transporters and warehouses ISO 9001. Controlled disposal of dangerous goods. Responsible for inventory control MRP (SAP system). Standardized electronic import purchasing. . Interfaced with clearing agents, transporters and shipping lines. Provided training with regards to the dangerous goods legislation. Responsible for customs clearing for incoming stock orders.
Achievements:
Appointed as chairman of Bayer Corporate Park Health and Safety Committee. Served as the Health and Safety representative for Lanxess. Member of working committee transport of dangerous goods - emergency information
systems SABS . Introduced the CEFIC Emergency card system for transport of Hazardous chemicals. Introduced country wide coordinated response system involving transport of Hazardous
goods. Implemented the national emergency response action plan. Standardized warehousing operating procedures. Assisted in developing a risk management system for Lanxess warehouse JHBG.
