Reclaimed Energy Alternatives

• Are environmentally oriented and sustainable.• They include hydro, solar, vegetable oil

Page 3: C.U.T.R

Vegetable Oil Car

• Recycled Vegetable Oil• Little emission discharges• Costs more than diesel

Page 4: C.U.T.R

Electric Cars

• Have a battery (or several) on board • Electric generator• No emission discharges

Page 5: C.U.T.R

Solar Powered

• low costs to operate • zero pollution • very light weight

Air Quality

The effects of Motor Vehicle Pollution

Page 7: C.U.T.R

The Four Foes of Air Pollution

• Sulfur Dioxide

• Nitrogen Oxides

• Mercury

• Carbon Dioxide

Page 8: C.U.T.R

Particle Pollution:

Forms mechanically- big things break into smaller things

Forms chemically- gases react in air to form aerosols

Smallest ones are the most dangerous

Page 9: C.U.T.R

What is Particle Pollution?

• Microscopic bits of stuff

• Highly transportable- blows anywhere

• Lodges deep inside the lungs

Page 10: C.U.T.R

Particle Pollution

• Comes from many sources, including-

Page 11: C.U.T.R

What is Ozone?

• Sometimes called smog

• Created in the atmosphere

Page 12: C.U.T.R

Health effects of Ozone

Increased airway reactivityLung inflammationCoughingReduced lung functionIncreased asthma attacksIncreased susceptibility of infection

Page 13: C.U.T.R

How to help reduce Motor Vehicle Pollution:

• Reduce driving

• Add/use more transit

• Cleaner diesel engines

The Facts About Oil Consumption

What are you doing to reduce the amount of oil that you consume?

Page 15: C.U.T.R

• Oil resources are not infinite, however we are not running out of oil.

• The fact is that we are just running out of CHEAP oil.• China and India are top chains meaning they are the

main suppliers of oil.• Right now there is a high demand so the oil is

becoming more expensive.• By the year 2005, it is expected to be 3 billion more

barrels of oil imported into the U.S. every year.

Are We Running Out of Oil?

The Environmental Damage

• The overflow of motor vehicles in our country is becoming a very important health issue.

• The exhaust from cars can cause serious respiratory problems.• Alternate forms of transportation are encouraged

so that we can keep down the amount of pollutants released into the atmosphere.

Page 17: C.U.T.R

Effects of Too Much Consumption

• As you can see, there are many ways that having a dependency on oil can affect the environment, your life, as well as your health.

• To avoid many of these problems like asthma and death (in some instances), try to team up with other people and carpool, walk, or ride a bike more often….

The Benefits Of Bicycling

Page 19: C.U.T.R

The Benefits Of Bicycling

• Bicycling can help keep you healthy.• It helps you to reduce the amount of air

pollution in the air.• It helps keep down the amount of traffic

congestion.• Bicycling also helps you reduce the

amount of oil and gas consumption. • Bicycling helps you to save the

environment.

Page 20: C.U.T.R

The Benefits Of Bicycling

• You can stay healthy and strong by exercising. What better way to exercise then riding your bike.

• You reduce the amount of air pollution distributed by the motor vehicles used daily.

• If you would ride your bikes to work or school it would reduce the number of cars in the road on a daily basis.

Page 21: C.U.T.R

The Benefits Of Bicycling• Your cars depending upon the size uses a lot of oil and gas.

• Those chemicals released from the vehicles is taking over our air supply. Not to mention the fact that prices of gas are increasing everyday.• By you getting out of your cars and onto a bike you are saving your environment. • How you may ask, well it is simple. Those gases that your cars are releasing are clogging up our ozone. It is tearing away at our supply of clean oxygen.

Page 22: C.U.T.R

The Benefits Of Bicycling

• There are a million and one reasons that you should park your cars and st bicycling.

• The gases that your cars release are limiting the amount of clean air supply that we have.

• It’s real simple. Help save your universe. Stop driving and start pedaling.

Transportation Demand Management

Transportation Demand Management (TDM) is a general term for strategies that result in

more efficient use of transportation resources.

Page 24: C.U.T.R

• Carpooling and/or Vanpooling

•Transiting

•Biking

•Walking

•Telecommuting

Page 25: C.U.T.R

Carpooling

Sharing a car to a destination to reduce fuel use, pollution and

travel costs.

Page 26: C.U.T.R

Transiting

Conveyance of people or goods from one place to another on a local public transportation system.

Page 27: C.U.T.R

Telecommuting

Working at home, usually one or more days a week.
