Wardrobe choices for Mirage
Lilly
For Lilly’s costume we have chosen to use bright pastel colours to contrast with her twin and establish her happiness before
the haunting begins, adding to the tragedy of the overall story which ends in
her death. The light colours connote her innocence,
which is a common trait amongst the protagonists of horror films. We also
wanted the character to look like a typical teenager, therefore a hoodie and
jeans would give her the casual teenage look.
Mum
We wanted Lilly’s mum to look like a stereotypical mother but with a lack of care given to her
appearance shown through her choice of clothing. The clothing in which she will wear can suggest to
the audience that something is upsetting her which they later discover is due to the death of
her other daughter Stephanie, therefore a shawl would make the actress playing Lilly’s mother look
older, as well as signifying that she has something to
hide which turns out to be her past.
Stephanie
As a group we decided that because Stephanie is a
teenage ghost she would need to have a look in which
made it obvious that she was dead and she was the
ghostly version of Lily (because they are twins).
The reason why we have chosen for Stephanie to wear
dark clothing is because we think that it’ll suggest
that she is dead, mysterious and powerful. However
we want this character to be wearing a hoodie and
converse shoes so the audience recognizes that she is
a teenager.
