Public Hearing Report for Metrobus Service Considerations
Page 2 of 68
TITLE:
Public Hearings October 2011 Staff Report
PURPOSE:
To obtain Committee and Board of Directors approval of the Public Hearings staff report to modify bus services to improve service effectiveness and customer satisfaction. DESCRIPTION:
Approval of the bus service changes recommended in the public hearings staff report will help Metro to meet its goals in several ways. Proper running times foster a safety culture as bus operators are not rushed to be on time, and the potential for accidents is reduced. Quality service and customer satisfaction are delivered with buses that run on time and match bus capacity to passenger demand, thereby enhancing Metro’s image. The service changes will match demand to capacity, increase cost recovery, and use every resource wisely. The proposed package of service realignments does not increase operating costs or the number of buses in the fleet. The ratio of passengers using services slated for improvements compared with the passengers using the non-productive services is approximately 15 to 1. A small re-allocation of existing resources will provide significant benefits to a large population of transit users.
FUNDING IMPACT:
The package of service improvements and reductions are designed to be cost neutral.
RECOMMENDATION:
Committee and Board of Directors approval of the Public Hearings staff report to modify bus services to improve service effectiveness and customer satisfaction
