1996 Research mentor for Urology resident C.R. Orth. This involves supervising and mentoring a Urology resident during a research year in my laboratory.

1996-1997 Laboratory mentor for Medical Student Eric Friedman. Mr. Friedman spent a year in my laboratory before his fourth year of Medical School at Hershey. He was directly supervised and mentored by me during this time. He earned a travel award for his research presentation at the annual meeting of the Mid Atlantic Section, American Urological Association. He went on to train in Radiation Oncology and is currently pursuing a career in Academic Medicine.

1998 Lecture to second year medical school class “Tumor Immunology,” part of second year microbiology course. This service involved the preparation of a lecture to the entire second year Medical School class, creation of a syllabus and slides for web posting and delivery of the lecture to the class. This was planned as a permanent part of the microbiology course but the curriculum was changed after that year.

1998 Research mentor for Urology resident Alex Rodriguez. This involves supervising and mentoring a Urology resident during a research year in my laboratory.

1996 – present Lecturer, UMB Pathology Graduate Course 760 “Pathobiology of Cancer” Course Director: Amy Fulton. This lecture is a part of the curriculum of this course which continues annually. This involves the selection by me of two papers from the current literature for review and discussion by me with the graduate student enrollees in the course.

1996-1998 Faculty mentor for full time post-doctoral fellow Sathibalan Ponniah, Ph.D. I mentored Dr. Ponniah who worked in my laboratory during this fellowship. Dr. Ponniah went on to pursue a career in academic cancer research and currently holds a faculty position at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.

1997 Doctoral thesis advisory committee, UMBC Biology graduate student Vicky Gunther. This involves committee meetings for review of thesis proposal and defense of dissertation and advisory activities for the Ph.D. candidate relating to her research program.

1999-2001 Faculty mentor for full time post-doctoral fellow Elena Klyushnenkova, Ph.D. Dr. Klyushnenkova was mentored by me and worked in my laboratory during this fellowship. She went on to pursue a career in academic cancer research first at the NCI Frederick Cancer Research Facility but then returned to once again join my laboratory at UM as Assistant Professor of Surgery/Urology in the School of Medicine. I am guiding her development as an independent investigator.

1997 Mentor for Visiting Medical Student Ben Chew. I advised and guided him during his UM experience. Dr. Chew went on to complete residency and fellowship training in Urology and is pursuing a career in academic Urology in Canada.

1999-present Clinical correlation instructor: First year medical student anatomy course: Pelvic and perineal dissections.

2003 Faculty mentor for third year medical student Gretchen Dickinson. Ms. Dickinson shadowed me in all clinical and research activities for one week.

2003-present Small group B discussion group instructor. Third year surgery clerkship students. This involves delivering a one hour presentation to student discussion group of 6-10 third year medical students on three topics each quarter, “Hematuria and Renal Calculi,” “Voiding Dysfunction and BPH” and “Genitourinary Malignancies.” Ongoing.
