Zimmerman Low Vision Simulation Kit

In 1979 I developed a variety of low vision simulation lenses and materials that revolutionized personnel preparation and professional continuing education in the field of blindness and low vision. Prior to the development of my Kit, students enrolled in vision studies university training and practitioners engaged in professional development activities wore blindfolds to simulate visual impairment, despite knowing that the largest percentage of blind or visually impaired population had residual or low vision. The materials I developed are optically correct lenses which when worn, allows sighted practitioners, university students, family members, and others who have contact with individuals who have low vision to visually understand the impact of vision loss on education and daily function. Today, the Zimmerman Low Vision Simulation Kit is used in various academic, educational, legal, medical, optometric, and rehabilitation settings around the world to teach others about the impact of low vision.
