(The FRIEND/Nile Programme aims at improving the international river basin management of the Nile through improved scientific cooperation among the Nile countries (Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda) in the field of water resources management and regional scale analysis of hydrological regimes. This will ultimately contribute to meet the basic human needs of safe and clean water supply – as expressed in the UN Millennium Development Goals - and will promote the sustainable development of the region by securing sufficient quantities of water for the agricultural, industrial and other sectors. Networking and technical exchange between the implementing institutions and the Flemish specialized universities is hereby a sought objective. The project serves as a good model for the south-south and north-south cooperation.)
