Convening, Co-ordinating and Management of Conferences

Since 1992, I have convened, co-ordinated and managed conferences

and workshops as follows:

Kenya Schools and Colleges Drama Festival Workshop. This took place at the Kasarani International SportsCentre in January, 2008.

Kenya Schools and Colleges Drama Festival Workshop.This took place at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu in January, 2007.

Kenya Schools and Colleges Drama Festival Workshop for National Adjudicators. This took place at JamhuriHigh School in Nairobi in February, 2006.

Kenya Schools and Colleges Drama Festival Workshop for national Adjudicators. This took place at Our Ladyof Mercy High School in Nairobi in February, 2005.

The Abanyole Cultural Forum 2004. The Theme of Marriagewas not exhaustively discussed in 2003. The villagerstherefore requested that the 2004 Forum focus onMarriage. In 2006, the Focus was on the Abanyole History.We did not meet in 2007 as this was a year of electionsand we did not want interference with politicians.

Abanyole Cultural Forum 2003. The Focus of this editionwas on Marriage.

The Abanyole Cultural Forum 2002. I organized this as a way

of bringing together the community which was also my study

The Abanyole Cultural Forum 2001. Members of this communitymet to critique my doctoral dissertation that was due for defence in a public forum at the University of Helsinki in 2002.

Action and Imagination in Children’s Literature: Parts 1, 2, and 3 at the British Council in Nairobi in 1997.These meetings brought together scholars and writers of Childrens Books to discuss how best to write forChildren at the turn of the century.

The 2nd African Regional Interplay 1996. This workshopwas sponsored by the British Council Auditorium. 50 youngPlaywright and tutor delegates from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzaniaand South Africa. The workshop took place at KenyattaUniversity between12/8/93 and 19/8/93.

The 1st National Young Playwrights’ Week – end 1991. This took place at Kenyatta University between 30/10/92 and 2/11/92 and brought together 60 young play writers and tutor delegates.

On 2nd November 2007, Longhorn Publishers in Nairobihonoured me for my work in writing for children. Therewas a full afternoon of performances, intellectualengagement on my books and children’s literature in General and speeches. Prof. Francis Imbuga was theGuest of Honour. His speech was based on my worksand contribution to children’s literature in Kenya.Dr. Catherine Ndungo presented a paper on my children’sbooks as well as my contribution to children’s literature.

(f) International Guest Lectures and Workshop

In 1991 I was invited to run theatre workshops for theVillage Players in Plasant Point as well as West Otago Theatrical Society.

In 1993 I was invited to run a series of theatre lecturesin Perth, Western Australia as follows: MurdochUniversity, Edith Cowen University, Aboriginal andIslander Music and Dance School, Swan TheatreCompany, and Curtain University.

In 1995 I was invited to give lectures and run workshopsfor theatre students at Trichur Campus of the Universityof Kerala.

In 1998 I was invited to give lectures on Oral Literaturein the Department of Folklore and Comparative Religionat the University of Tartu in Estonia.

In 2005 I was invited to give lectures on theatre andOral literature at the University of Reykjavik in Iceland.

Leadership

a) Developing of teaching/academic programmes in theDepartment.

I was involved in the development of a Diploma andPost Graduate Diploma in Theatre Arts Programmes.Many of these programmes have been incorporatedinto the programme that is being mounted by theDepartment of Theatre and Film Studies.

Community Service

I am a member of Hobunaka Secondary SchoolBoard of Governors.

Since 2001, I have organized and run Abanyole Cultural Forum. This is a cultural event organized in Bunyore in December of every year since 2001except 2007 which was an election year in Kenyaand I did not want to mix with this. A varietyof subjects have been discussed at the forumincluding death and funerals in the community,marriage and the history of the community.
