Networks in Academia and Industry
Me and my group have very close collaboration with especially the automotive industry, but
also with other industries. I have numerous contacts and networks in the automotive research
community, which is manifested in the fact that I 2002-2005 was chairman of the Technical
Committee on Automotive Control, and during 2005-2011 I was member of the Technical
Board and Chairman of Transportation and Vehicle Systems within IFAC.
Graduate Supervision and Publications
I have supervised a number of students resulting in 14 Licentiate and 12 Phd degrees and I
am currently supervising three postgraduate students. I have published more than hundred
international publications, out of which more than thirty in international journals, and one
important book “Automotive Control Systems” together with U. Kiencke.

Gunnar Holmberg holds a PhD on Aircraft Development and is member of the Royal
Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
Gunnar Holmberg joined Saab in 1986 starting with development of analysis methods
and tools via responsibilities for Saab development capabilities and technology
management to the current position in business development.
Gunnar has a history of ten years with focus on UAS, including leading Saabs early
efforts that resulted in the Neuron program, the coordination of the six nations
industries during the establishment of the ETAP research program, and leading the
industry preparation of the European S&A project MidCAS.
Gunnar is active in collaboration with universities and is Director of LinkLab, a research
centre at Linköping University for future air systems, Chairman of the board of the
Industry Excellence Center LINKSIC. Gunnar is also a member of the Board of Georgia
Tech Aero and Space Design Laboratory which is a leading research organization for
simulation based design with about 200 researchers

Dr. Jonas Jansson (22.11.1973), is head of the department Road and
Road users and is also research director of the research unit Vehicle
Technology and Simulation at VTI. Dr. Jansson specializes in active
safety systems and vehicle dynamics. He was previously with Volvo Car
Corporation between 1999 and 2007, where he worked as function owner
of the customer functions "collision warning with brake support" and
"collision warning with autobrake". His thesis, in the area of automatic
control, focus on active safety systems for passenger vehicle, with
particular emphasis on pre-crash braking systems. Dr. Jansson's own
research at VTI currently focuses on the evaluation of ADAS systems, vehicle dynamics and
driving simulation.

Lena Nilsson (17.11.1950), Dr in Biomedical Engineering, is since
2008 the Director of the competence centre ViP (Virtual Prototyping
and Assessment by Simulation, www.vipsimulation.se) which aims at
building a common competence and cooperation platform for develop-
ment and application of driving simulator methodology in HMI and
system development research and innovation in the transport area. ViP
is hosted by VTI with partners from OEMs, transport authority, SMEs
and the research community. Dr. Nilsson is also the leader of the
competence area Driving Simulator Applications in SAFER at Chalmers
University of Technology. She has previously led the human factors research unit at VTI. As
a researcher Lena specializes in human factors in transportation, design and evaluation of
driver support systems and ITS, drivers’ performance, load and acceptance, and the working
environment of professional drivers. She has expert knowledge in assessment methodology
and simulator applications, experience as manager of collaborative projects, and extensive
national and international networks. In summary, Dr. Nilsson has a broad competence and
twenty-five years’ experience of national and international research in the fields of human
factors, driver behaviour and support, and HMI evaluation.
