PERSONAL STATEMENT

As a graduate from Glamorgan University, with a 2:1 honours degree in Business and Management, I have been able to gain an in depth understanding and knowledge of topics such as organisational behaviour, strategic management, business planning and marketing and have had the opportunity to implement this learning into the environment of retail management with ASDA stores.

Through detailed training and experience gained in a working environment and the knowledge acquired in my degree, I have been able to develop an excellent set of transferable skills. These include commercial awareness, planning and organising, managing teams and staff development, duty management and leading people in a tough fast paced retail environment.

My personal goals are to continue my development in the business sector and to look for greater opportunities and responsibilities in order to achieve my full potential and greater business results.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Duty Manager – Current. ASDA Stores

Responsibilities:

Acting as duty manager on behalf of store manager’s absence. With a store turnover of £6.5 million in sales for year ending 2014.

Accountable for up to 70 colleagues throughout the business.

George Clothing Manager / Duty Manager = September 2011 – Current. ASDA Stores

Responsibilities:

Taking full accountability and managing a George clothing department with sales of £3.2 million for year ending Dec 2014.

Duty management for the entire Asda store in the absence of store manager. This can be on a daily basis depending on management rotas. Taking full responsibility for colleague safety, business demands, communicating with regional management and safe/legal and customer safety.

Planning key events in the calendar year to achieve maximum commercial awareness and profitability. Implementing key promotions on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to give the customer excellent deals and drive sales and footfall into the business.

Planning and organising colleagues in the business to suit business demands all year round. Including delivery schedules, staff rotas, Holiday planning, external visitors and colleague training days.

Colleague development and training so they can be accountable for their sections in the business and step up to new challenges. Making colleagues grow to improve business standards and results so they may have an in-depth sight into the business and why we take these actions as a business to achieve results.

Financial responsibility for the department, daily sales review and breakdown into key sections of the business to indicate our top performing sections and sections that can be improve on. Also have understanding of Profit and Loss account for department and store.

Achievements:

George Department beat sales plan for 2014 taking £3.2 million in sales up from £3million in 2013.

My George Department beat its company sale plan for 2013 by 5% with total sales of £3 million. This is a 235k growth year on year 2012 to 2013.

My department beat its company sales plan for 2012 by 17% with total sales of £2.8 million. This is £300k growth year on year 2011 to 2012.

My department achieved overall number one position in the South Living region last year for George.

I achieved the Highest Retail standard mark possible in the last regional visit. This is an audit conducted by regional management and looks at the department and it’s fitness to trade within company policy and standards.

Developing key colleagues on my department to step up their career growth by spending development time with them and aiding them on company development programmes.

Awarded at the national George Managers conference for high standards.

Asda Colleague = July 2009 – September 2011.

Responsibilities:

Running of Health & Beauty department, this would include promoting products on the department, driving sales and growth and helping to land midyear baby events in store.

Process colleague – checking that perpetual inventory on behalf of the company was correct in store. Ordering and adjusting stock levels to meet the company’s needs and demands in peak trading periods and throughout the year. These actions would have a direct impact on Asda’s book stock valuation.

Showing great enthusiasm and the willingness to learn in different areas of the business and gained a broader understanding of the retail environment.

Summer of 2011 started some developmental training and starting taking on more responsibilities such as cash and till close downs and locking the shop down after trading.

Sales Assistant = 2010 – 2011 Weldwide Solutions Ltd (part time whilst studying)

Responsibilities:

Building relationships with customers in a start-up business. Product development. Marketing to domestic and foreign market.

Sales Assistant = 2006 – 2008 Huntingdon Fusion techniques Ltd (part time whilst studying)

Building relationships with customers. Shipping orders/ warehouse operations.

My interests include football, surfing and general sports, I am also involved with helping Save The Children Llanelli charity where we organise key events such as charity dinner balls and activities.

In my spare time I enjoy DIY and home improvements on my current home which was purchased last year and dog walking with the family.
