Research summary of Dr. Muhammad Ali .

My expertise lies in solving cell-signalling pathways using cancer cell lines, genetically engineered (GMO) &

chemically induced mouse models of human diseases like diabetes, liver injury, and breast cancer. I majorly work

on the functional role of PI3K-AKT-mTORC1 and MAPK-ERK cell signalling pathways. I study the pheonomena

and signalling of autophagy and mitophagy in diabetes, breast & liver cancers. I usually suggest to adopt the idea

of signalling modulation rather than merely inhibition. To understand these signaling pathways, I use tools of genetic

engineering (CRISPR/Cas9), RNA interference (shRNA, siRNA), protein interaction (Co-IP, Western blotting,

ICC), and tissue phenotype (IHC).

My first discovery came out when I found a novel role of TERT in the inhibition of kinase activity of mTORC1.

Furthermore, TERT-mediated inhibition of mTORC1 induced basal and amino acid starvation autophagy and thus

cell survival. Second, I discovered that EI24 protein degrades TRAF6 to attenuate MAPK/ERK and STAT3

signaling pathways that implicate breast cancer. I also remained extensively involved in the generation of genetically

modified mice for human diseases models. I have written some projects to suggest therapeutic strategies for

diabetes and liver fibrosis. These days, I am also included several medicinal plant to treat diabetes and liver injury.
