Curriculum Vitae: Adam M. Vogel, MD PERSONAL STATEMENT I am currently an Associate Professor in Surgery and Pediatrics in the Texas Children’s Hospital Department of Surgery and the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery of Baylor College of Medicine. I have clinical interest in all aspects of general and thoracic pediatric surgery with a clinical and research focus on surgical critical care, extracorporeal life support, surgical nutrition, trauma, inflammatory bowel disease, thyroid disease, and vascular anomalies. I am the Surgical Director of Pediatric Critical Care, the Surgical Director of Extracorporeal Life Support, and Associate Director of the Pediatric Trauma Program at Texas Children’s Hospital. I am involved in clinical research and quality improvement programs in the area of pediatric surgical critical care. In my trauma research, I investigate both the role of massive transfusion and goal directed hemostatic resuscitation using viscoelastic monitoring in the initial management of the critically injured trauma patient, as well as optimizing management strategies in pediatric blunt abdominal trauma. My research within surgical critical care currently focuses on barriers to effective communication in the care of pediatric surgical patients as well as the role and impact of analgesia, sedation, and delirium in surgical critical care. I am an active participant in national, multicenter, collaborative pediatric surgery research initiatives. In addition, I serve as the director of the pediatric tract of the surgical critical care fellowship for the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Surgery, as well as the coordinator of the Department of Pediatrics resident clinical elective in pediatric surgery. I would describe my leadership philosophy as inspiring others to live their pediatric surgical dream while living mine through integrity, excellence, collaboration, and kindness. I.
