Applied Research Reports

Campbell-Whatley, G.D., Merriweather, L., Lee, J.A., & Toms, O. (2012). Under a

grant financed by Provost Joan Lorden, an evaluation study was conducted to

assess the impact of the Summer Diversity Institute on the campus community.

Quantitative research indicated significant differences. Faculty who attended the

institute were more likely than faculty who did not attend to integrate

multicultural education ideology into their curriculum. Students of faculty who

attended the institute were more likely than students of faculty who did not

attend to indicate that they were exposed to multicultural education ideology in

their coursework. Qualitatively, faculty attendees reported improved course

planning, facilitation and personal development. Students reported positive

benefits such as feeling more included in the classroom and attitudinal changes

about diversity both inside and outside of the classroom.
