The Youth Mentoring grant is an innovative model of group mentoring in middle schools that
focuses on bullying prevention. Mentors consisting of older adults, parents (who receive

Safe Schools – Healthy Students (2009-2013). $5.6 million awarded by DOE, HHS &
DOJ to Broome – Tioga BOCES with $3.2 million of that going to Binghamton U. Institute for
Intergenerational Studies’ Center for Family, School and Community Partnerships for program
development, implementation, oversight and evaluation. The Safe Schools grant, SHARE,
works in PK – high schools in nine school districts to address issues of violence, mental health,
early childhood education, substance (ab)use and psychosocial issues that impede academic
