Rewards and Consequences Tokens: Each child will receive 5 tokens at the

beginning of each week. When they are off-task, talking during inappropriate times, or exhibiting other behaviors not appropriate for the classroom they will lose a token. If they have at least one token left on Friday, they will get to participate in “Fun Friday”! If they have lost all of their tokens for the week, they will go to “Study Hall” instead.

Students who lost 0 or 1 token during an entire quarter will receive something extra for being excellent role models!

Students will start with 3 tokens after winter break!

Graded Work Graded work and class work will be sent home every

Friday along with a “Weekly Report”. The weekly report will tell you:

◦ What we covered in class that week (in all curriculum areas)

◦ Anything upcoming that you should be aware of

◦ How your child’s behavior was for the week

◦ Class work completion for the week (not necessarily the quality of the work, but whether or not it was completed)

◦ Homework completion for the week

When you get your child’s “Friday Folder”, please take out all the work and review it with your child…this is yours to keep. Please return the empty “Friday Folder” with your child to school the following Monday.

Spelling

Kyrene School District has adopted the Trophies spelling program to go along with the reading program. This focuses

on word families and story words.

Each week:

Each Monday, students will be given a Spelling Preview where they are given the 20 word family words and 5 extra “high frequency” words.

We will correct it together using the “dots and circles” method.

They will take home a list of the 25 words they are to be studying during the week

If a student receives 100% on the preview, he or she will be given 5 challenge words for extra credit on the Friday spelling test.

Thursday’s spelling homework is to practice the words using Spelling City at www.spellingcity.com.

Each Friday there will be a Spelling Review where they are tested on the words.
