What it is:1. Reflection of what the child has learned

2. Learning compared to a standards based benchmark at a specific point in time

3. A rating that represents the student’s level of mastery at a specific time

4. Reflection of student achievement as related to standard

5. Picture of current progress toward the learning standard

6. Assessment of student work as it compares to a consistent curriculum and benchmarks

7. Ongoing meaningful formative feedback

8. Holistic view of learning progress towards an academic standard

What it is not:1. What the child earned based upon teacher decision

2. Comparing student learning and/or achievement to that of their peers;

3. A percentage grade

4. A reflection of student effort or behavior; it is not a punishment or reward for effort or behavior and/or incomplete assignments

5. Average of all assignments across a grading period; A reflection of a bell curve

6. Teachers’ individual idea of what the standard is

7. The application of a summative grade

8. Heavily based on one task and/or assessment

Half Days for Students

Students will be released at 11:50 on four days throughout the school year. Each of these mornings will have a special theme:

• STEAM – Friday, November 9, 2018

• Culturally Responsive Schools – Friday, January 18, 2019

• Day of Play – Friday, March 22, 2019

• School choice – Thursday, June 6, 2019
