outcome.

Any use of support materials and aids for the examination will be stated in the semester description.

5 Qualifying study activities

For all semesters, there will be a number of qualifying study activities which must be approved for

the student to be able to take the examination. A qualifying activity may be a presentation,

systematic observation in the clinical training activities, preparation of and assignment, and so on.

Qualifying activities are approved on the basis of formal requirements described in the individual

semester.

6 Interdisciplinary elements (20 ECTS)

The interdisciplinary programme elements comprise 20 ECTS credits, which over the course of the

study programme have an increasing academic and didactic progression. In Semester 1, the focus is

on the relationship between citizen and healthcare professional, as well as the context in which the

meeting is situated. In Semester 2, the focus moves towards a number of different initiatives in

relation to the citizen and the patient's health challenges and disease correlations, while in Semester

4 and 5 there are challenges and innovative measures in relation to these initiatives as key themes.

In Semester 6, the interdisciplinary aspect is part of the clinical cooperation.

This entails that initially an understanding is established of the welfare professions' sphere of

activity, based on a positive and wide-reaching healthcare concept, with key focus on the health-

promoting perspective. On this basis, the focus is on identifying more complex health problems and

healthcare professional initiatives from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Analysis and critical reflection concerning both issues and possible initiatives are considered on this

basis. There is emphasis on working innovatively with the healthcare professions’ development of

actions that can strengthen the interdisciplinary measures, with citizens and their health at the centre.

supplement or elaborate on themes covered by the programme, and which include theoretical,

practical/clinical elements as mono- and/or interdisciplinary courses.

The elective element in Semester 7 can be completed at another Danish or foreign educational

institution. If the student applies for a stay abroad, the course must be approved by the student’s own

educational institution, cf. the guidelines for credit transferred in advance.

In Semester 7, the student will also be able to take the elective element as a "self-chosen

subject", whereby they can plan a study activity in Denmark or abroad.

If the student chooses this, their subject and course must be approved by their own educational

institution. The course can be taken under an educational institution or one of the programme’s

approved clinical teaching sites.

International students can take part in the English-language elective elements offered, on the same

terms as UCC students. International students earn ECTS credits by completing and are awarded

credit by their home institution.

8.2 Number of ECTS An elective element amounts to 10 ECTS credits.

8.3 Timing during the course of study Elective elements take place in the programme’s Semesters 3 and 7.

8.4 Examinations Elective elements are examined as part of the individual semester's overall learning outcome. On the conclusion of an elective element, the student must complete a qualifying activity, which

must be approved by the programme, cf. the formal requirements described, before they can take

the semester’s examinations.

The qualifying activity is described under the individual elective element/semester. For example,

practical and/or oral presentation, written assignments and other elements.

If a student undertakes the elective element during Semester 7 at another national educational

institution, they must complete the element in accordance with their home institution’s guidelines.

If the student does not undertake the qualifying activity or fails to comply with the compulsory

attendance obligation, they must either prepare and obtain approval of a replacement assignment,

or complete an elective element the next time this opportunity is offered.

9 Instruction and working methods used

The education programme will be organised as an interaction between theoretical instruction and

clinical training, with a view to ensuring practical relevance and the development of professional

competences. Students are expected to be able to handle foreign-language texts in e.g. the

Scandinavian languages and English.

9.1 Theory classes

The teaching aim for the Bachelor’s Degree Programme of Nursing is to create development and

learning processes that develop the students' knowledge, skills and competences in relation to the

learning outcomes set.

For the Bachelor’s Degree Programme of Nursing at UCC a high degree of study activity is

expected, equivalent to an average working week of 40 hours.

Teaching and study activity are structured as a Study Activity Model comprising four elements:

Quadrant 1: Teaching Initiated by teacher – teacher and students are present

Quadrant 2: Study activity initiated by teacher – students are present

Quadrant 3: Study activity initiated by students – teacher and students are present

Quadrant 4: Study activity initiated by students - only students are present

As the study activity model shows, there is alternation between timetabled teaching, lectures,

individual preparation, group work, various elective activities, and exercises and simulation

training in the Clinical Learning Lab.

9.2 Clinical training

Clinical training is the part of the programme in which the student takes a clinical training course at

an approved clinical training site. The purpose of clinical training is for the student to be in direct

contact with citizens/patients and to learn to observe, diagnose, assess, prioritise, manage,

coordinate, evaluate, document and adjust nursing care for citizens and patient in stable, acute and

complex care and treatment pathways.

The clinical training must be organised as mutually binding and close cooperation between the

educational institution and the clinical training site. The educational institution and the clinical

training site will cooperate on the framework and conditions for the student’s development and

learning. The student must complete planned and targeted courses of instruction and supervision

on the basis of example-setting, authentic citizen and patient pathways and nursing situations that

are relevant with regard to the individual semester’s learning outcome, knowledge, skills and

Page 26: Curriculum for the Bachelor’s Degree Programme of Nursing ... · development-oriented situations in nursing care and intervene according to evidence-based and research-based practice

27

clinical training site is responsible for ensuring the framework and conditions which an approved

clinical training site is required to fulfil.

For a clinical training site to be approved, a basis for approval must be prepared in order to show

that the clinical training site in question offers clinical training on specific semesters, so as to

support learning opportunities for the student to achieve the learning outcome required of the

clinical training for the semester in question.

A requirement for approval is the attachment of clinical supervisors who are nurses, and who have

pedagogical qualifications equivalent to 1/6 diploma programme. The clinical supervisors are in

charge of, and responsible for, the continuous day-to-day daily clinical training and supervision of

the student at an approved clinical training site.

Another requirement for approval is that the clinical training site has prepared a general syllabus

describing the course of teaching and learning opportunities at the specific clinical training site.

11.2 Basis for approval of clinical training sites

The basis for approval of clinical training sites is a description of the organisational, managerial,

nursing and educational conditions:

Organisational and managerial conditions

The clinical training site’s organisational basis, framework and conditions, including an

account of the clinical supervisors’ nursing and pedagogical qualifications and competences, as

well as resources for the day-to-day clinical supervision.

Nursing conditions

The nursing, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral conditions. This includes the citizen and patient

situations, patient and citizen pathways, and nursing tasks and methods, which form the

professional basis for the students to achieve the relevant semesters’ learning outcome,

knowledge, skills and competences.

Educational conditions

The organisation and arrangement of teaching, including study methods and conditions for the

student’s participation in the clinical training. The clinical supervisors' function, including use of

resources and forms of cooperation between supervisors and students. The learning and study

environment, including teaching facilities that support the students' academic and personal

learning processes in relation to the development of competences in the relevant semesters.

Approval of a clinical training site is valid for three years. The approval is given in writing.

An approval can, exceptionally, be granted conditionally with a view to the clinical training

site meeting the approval requirements within a defined period of time.

If changes occur during the approval period that have significant consequences for the students’

clinical training and the reception of new students, the clinical training site must inform the

educational institution as soon as possible.

and thereby conditions for taking the relevant semester’s examination

The clinical training is compulsory and amounts to 30 hours/week. Students may be absent for a

maximum of 10 per cent. A requirement for taking the semester's examination is that the student

observes this, as well as the qualifying study activities described.

In collaboration with the clinical supervisor from the clinical training site, the student must

prepare and receive approval of an individual syllabus within the first 14 days of the clinical

training. The individual syllabus is based on the clinical training site’s general syllabus. The

individual syllabus must be approved by the clinical supervisor. An individual syllabus includes

agreements on the student's attendance, dates for training and supervision, the content, form and

requirements concerning teaching, qualifying study activities, including the submission of and

feedback on assignments, etc., as well as deadlines for evaluation.

12 Make-up examinations and re-sits

Students who, due to documented illness, have not taken an examination must take the

examination as soon as possible. Make-up examinations and re-sits are scheduled in direct

continuation of the ordinary examination, or together with the next ordinary examinations in the

subject/module.

The student is automatically enrolled for the make-up examination or re-sit.

In the case of an examination in the final examination period, such as a bachelor project, the

examination/re-sit will take place in the same examination period, or immediately thereafter.

12.1 Special examination conditions

Students who fulfil the conditions for this may be offered special examination conditions in

accordance with the Act on special educational support in higher education (SES support).

12.2 Academic integrity

12.2.1 Use of own and others’ work, cf. Section 19 of the Ministerial Order on Examinations

Use of own previously assessed examination papers must take place with reference to the source

and with the use of quotation marks for direct quotations from the examination paper. The same

applies to the use of fellow students' examination papers. They must be referred to as the source in

the same way as for all other sources used in the examination paper.

If the suspicion arises during or after an examination that a student has published another person’s

work as his or her own, this must be reported to UCC. The same applies if a student has used his or

her own previously assessed work without including a reference. If the suspicion is confirmed after

an investigation of the case, and if the action has had, or could have, consequences for the

assessment, the student must be expelled from the examination, cf. Section 19 of the Ministerial

Order on Examinations.

12.2.2 Disciplinary measures in cases of cheating and disruptive behaviour during an

examination, cf. Section 19.

A student may be expelled from an examination if it is found that cheating or disruptive behaviour

has taken place during the examination, cf. Section 19 of the Ministerial Order on Examinations.

Guidance concerning the procedure in the event of suspicion of cheating in examinations can be

found on the Law Portal on UCC's intranet.

13 Credit and advance approval of credit transfer

Students who have completed the first and second year of study under the same programme at

another educational institution will, on transfer, receive credits for the first two years without

individual assessment.

Compulsory credit is granted before study start on the basis of the application for admission based

on subject areas passed from a previous Danish or foreign higher education programme. In each

case, an academic assessment will be made of whether there are elements of the education

programme for which credit must be granted. The applicant has no influence on the decision.

Voluntary credit transfer:

Voluntary credit transfer is granted after study start, and on the basis of an application. The

application procedure and date of submission of the credit transfer application will be published on

the website at the same time as announced by the student counsellor on study start. In practice, the

student applies for credit transfer for subject areas in which the applicant has already acquired

competences which can be compared with the learning outcomes for the subject area/internship in

question. Competences can be achieved through previous education or experience. Credit transfer is

granted on the basis of prior interview, whereby an overall assessment is made of previous

experience, the duration of the experience and study-related competences. The experience-based

competences will primarily be achieved through work as a social and health assistant (SOSU

assistant). The granting of credit transfer will not exempt the student from responsibility for

updating knowledge and competences either via teaching or examination at a later stage in the

programme.
