1. Introduction

1.1 Mission

To prepare engineering students for successful careers.

1.2 Vision

To be a recognized mechanical engineering department that attracts, rewards, and retains

outstanding faculty, students, and staff.

1.3 Program Educational Objectives

The graduates of B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (ME) program will:

i. Engage in Mechanical Engineering profession in public and private sectors including, but not

limited to, relevant governmental sectors, consulting firms, contracting companies, marketing

and real estate investments.

ii. Engage in ongoing professional development activities by pursuing graduate studies and / or

other learning opportunities to respond to arising challenges.

iii. Advance in responsibility and leadership in their careers.

1.4 Program Outcomes (ABET)

a. An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering.

b. An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.

c. An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic

constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety,

2. Course Description

Courses are coded as follows:

1. Course code and number

2. Course title

3. Parenthesized numerals, e.g., (4-3-1-3), indicate, in order, the credit hour, the classroom hours (1

hour = 1 credit hour), tutorial hours (credit hour = 0), and the laboratory hours (1 hour = 0.5 credit

hour and 2-3 hours = 1 credit hour).

Prerequisites, if any, are indicated at the course description. These have been established to

assure an adequate and uniform background for students in advanced classes. Occasionally,

students may feel they already have the appropriate background for an advanced course because of

previous training, transfer credits, or credit by examination.

Summer Training

The Mechanical Engineering curriculum requires students to complete two months of

summer training at private industries or governmental firms. This training is a compulsory

component of graduation requirements. It is supervised by the Summer Training Committee of the

department.
