Ourcurriculumisbasedona“Non-denominationalBiblicalChristianWorldView”anditisourhopethatallstudentsattendingourschoolmayrecogniseandknowthepowerofGod’ssavinggrace.Individualpastoralcareandopportunitiesforservantleadershiparesomeofthestrengths ofourschool.Asaschool,weseektohelpstudentsdiscovertheirGod-givengiftsandtalentsandarepassionateaboutnurturingthesegiftsandseeingstudentsdevelopthesetotheirfullpotential.

EachstudentinYear7hasasemesterbeingpartofourInstrumentalMusicProgram.Thisisanexcitingopportunitytobeinvolvedinworkingtogethertoexplore,learnandcreatemusic.Eachstudentispartofoneofthreemusicalgroupings-rhythm,woodwindorbrass-andwillspendthesemesterplayingoneofthefollowinginstruments:
• Clarinet

• Saxophone (Alto&Tenor)

Woodwindandbrassinstrumentsaretakenhome(afterasmallfeeandcontractarehandedin),andstudentsareresponsibleforpracticingandcaringfortheirinstrument.
Studentsparticipateinoneperiodofasmallgroupensemble,andoneperiodofband.Ensemblesessionscompriseofsmallgrouptuitionwithafocusonmusictheoryandtechnique.Studentsworkthroughrhythmexercisesandshortpieces,aswellasthelargerpiecesofmusicthattheentirebandplays.Duringthebandsession(comprisingofaround40students),studentslearntoappreciateeachother,aswellasdeveloptheirlisteningandperformanceskills–allleadingtowardsaperformanceattheendofthesemester.
Manystudentshavenothadtheexperienceoflearningorplayinganinstrumentbefore.Alargefocusoftheexperienceistohavea‘growthmindset’encouraged.

OVERVIEWPUSHhasbeendevelopedaroundtheideaofphysicalexertionpriortoacademicrigourinordertofocusastudent’sattentionamongstthemanydistractionsintheclassroom.Itiswelldocumentedthatthebenefitsofexerciseandgeneralfitnessarelinkedtosocialandemotionalwellbeing.Researchalsohasshownthatacademicfocusandperformanceisimprovedwhenweexerciseduetoincreasedbrainactivity.
Thisprogramwillsplittheyearlevelintofourgroupsthatwillrotatethroughfourdifferentactivitiesthroughouttheyear.Fortwoperiodseveryweek,studentswillengagewithoneoftheseactivitieschallengingthembothphysicallyandmentally.TheactivitiesincludeBikeEducation,Cross-Training,TrekkingandBoxing.Allfouroftheseactivitiesareaimedatstretchingthestudentstopushthemselvestotheirlimitsandengageinanactivecurriculum.

TheEnvironmentalScienceelectiveisbasedontheAustralianCrossCurriculumPriorityofSustainability.Sustainabilityeducationfocusesonworkingandlearningabouttheenvironmentbothlocallyandgloballytopromoteleadershipinprotectingandimprovingenvironmentsingeneral.Studentswillbeengagedinlearningaboutandenhancingourownenvironment
withinBHCSschoolboundariessuchas:theschoolsectionoftheMonbulkCreekandalsoneighbouringenvironmentswithintheYarraRanges.BHCSisaleaderschoolwithintheYarraRangesforEnvironmentalEducationandSustainability,partofthiselectivewillbetoworkinassistingandpartneringwithotherschools.
Forthefirsttime,ourschoolisofferingaMediaelectivetoYears7and8.ThesubjectwillofferopportunitiesforstudentstomakeshortfilmsandanimationsusingsoftwaresuchasiMovie,Anime
Studio,StopMotionStudio,MuvizuandAdobePremier.Studentsmayusetheirowncameraandsoftware,butarenotobligatedtobecausetheSchoolhasequipment/softwarestudentscanborrow.
OutdoorEducationprovidessignificantopportunitiesforexperientiallearningaboutrelationshipswithself,othersandtheenvironment.Specifically,OutdoorEducationaimsto:Inspireandequipstudentstorecreateintheoutdoorsforthesakeoftheirphysical,mental,emotionalandspiritualhealth.The
courseaimstoprovidestudentswithanopportunitytoexperiencearangeofnaturalenvironments,tobuildanappreciationoftheoutdoorsandtodeveloparesponsibleenvironmentalethicandtoconstruct experiencesthatwillbringaboutsomedeeplypersonalmeaning.
AllstudentsinYear7attendoneperiodaweektodoRoboticsforanentiresemester.Studentsworkingroupsofthreetocompletesmallchallengeswhichoftenlasttwotothreeweeks.ThestudentsareaskedtoconstructandprogramLegoMindstormkits.Someofthechallengesthestudentsmayworkoncouldinclude:aracecar
