FROM THE PASTOR
Dear South River Family,
Fall is a beautiful time of year to witness the handiwork of our God as He paints master-pieces everyday with the changing foliage. I hope you are planning to join the church family for the annual Fall Festival on October 22nd from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. We need your help in three ways. First, this is designed to be a church-wide family-friendly event. For the children there will be games, candy, and bounce houses. We will have hay rides for families and there will be food, fellowship, and a few other surprises. Please mark your calendars now to join us on that Saturday. A second critical way to ensure success is to invite our community in order to experience our South River church family. Please pray now and invite those in your area of influence to the event. This is a great opportunity to introduce them to our church’s location, our church family, and our love for Christ. Bring these individuals with you that day! Finally, I want to encourage everyone to serve in some way during the event. We will need help at information booths, setting up and tearing down, as well as directing traffic for parking. We are asking each Sunday School class to identify how they will facilitate game booths or other elements of the event. Let us all do our part in making this enjoyable for everyone. Thank you for the privilege to serve as your pastor and witness your hunger to grow in Christ and to reach our community for Him.
Blessings,Pastor Chris

Are you a pumpkin? I guess the better question is, “Are you like a pumpkin?” As a young child, I remember every October my parents would take my brother and me to the store and allow us to pick out a pumpkin to carve. This was an exciting activity that we always enjoyed! We would start by cutting open the top. Once the top was cut open, we could look down and see all of the pumpkin gunk. It was gross but we enjoyed scooping out all of the gunk. Next we would take and carve the front. We would make the front into any image we wanted; some were fun-ny, some scary, and some I don’t think we really knew what we were doing. Either way, it was an image that we carved with our hands! The neatest part of the process was the last step. We would take a tea light candle and place the light in the pumpkin. At night we could see our pumpkins glow and shine its image. In the same way, when we give our lives to God we can expect Him to open our hearts and cleanse us of our sins. He places His light in us so that we can shine. And when others look to see our light, they see an image into which He has uniquely carved us . So may I ask again “Are you like a pumpkin; can people see your light?”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Matthew 5:16 (NKJV) 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Philippians 2:12-18 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my pres-
ence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without
murmurings and disputings: that ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without re-
buke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain,
neither laboured in vain. Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy,
and rejoice with you all. For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.
Great scripture that reminds us that we need to work daily on our walk with Christ. May
we never be pleased with our current position but everyday struggle to serve Him greater than the
day before…
