Our sincerest appreciation to the Auxiliary for this wonderful and unexpected gift. We have ordered 21 new large print books for the Scott City Branch with these funds. They were all in stock and should be shipped and ready for the shelves within the next two weeks. From the Director:

GRANT-- Riverside just received a Targeted Collection grant of $2,520 from the Missouri State Library to purchase the 2012-2013 final nominees for the Gateway, Truman, Mark Twain, and Show Me Readers Awards, and the Building Block Award--all are annual Missouri awards for children's books for ages preschool through teens. With this money we were able to purchase sufficient books to complete the sets at all the branches, PLUS purchase sets of AUDIO BOOKS for those nominees that were also available in audio form. Children vote on their favorite book in each category--preschoolers can vote at the library for the Building Block Award, and elementary thru high school age vote at their local schools for their favorite title in the other award groups. This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

E-BOOKS-- Riverside will soon be able to loan

e-books to patrons. We recently signed with The 3M Cloud Library to provide e-books to Riverside card-holders. They can be downloaded to Nooks and multiple other devices. The books will come with a 3-week checkout and can be returned early in order to check out another, or they will simply disappear from the device at the end of three weeks--thus no overdue fines. Right now we are in the process of getting everything set up. This will be followed by training for all the employees so we will be able to help any patron who needs assistance. I hope we will be ready to launch the service by the end of June, pending no delays. We are all very excited about this project and appreciate TG Missouri Corporation, the Friends of the Library @ Jackson, Richardet Floor Covering of Perryville, and the Friends of the Library @ Perryville for their generous donations to help purchase additional e-books for this project.

CARPETING--The new carpeting at the Perryville Branch looks wonderful. Drop in to take a look if you haven't already seen it. Our thanks to the City of Perryville for assisting with this project, and to Richardet’s Flooring of Perryville and Heartland Movers of Cape.

DONATIONS—Thank you to The East Perry County County Lions Club, the Brazeau Extension Club, and the Peoples Bank of Altenburg for their generous donations to Altenburg Branch to be used for Summer Reading Club. Thank you! Local businesses are donating coupons, tickets and prizes to the Summer Reading Program. Thank you to Wehrenberg Theatre and McDonald's for tickets and coupons! Jackson Tire has donated hats for prizes. More businesses are pending. Thank you to The Scott City Kiwanis Club for their generous donation to the Scott City Branch for the Summer Reading Program. Thank you! Thanks to all the patrons who continue to donate books, magazines, DVDs, music CDs and more to Riverside. Lots go into the collections, but if we can’t use them, we put them in our book sales or send them to an Internet seller—all monies earned go into the library budget to buy more books and AV, equipment, programs, and more. So thank you to everyone who remembers the library!

FRIENDS--The Friends of the Library @ Benton donated $194.40 to purchase a year’s subscription to the Southeast Missourian newspaper for the Benton branch. Thank you! The Friends of the Library @ Jackson made $655 from their Book Sale April 19-21. $601 from book sales and $54 from memberships sold these three days. Thank you to everyone who turned out to shop at the spring book sales presented by the Friends of the Library @ Jackson, Perryville, and Scott City. Oran’s book sale/bake sale is coming up Saturday, May 12, 9 to Noon. Thank you to the Friends of the Library @ Perryville, Jackson, and Benton for their generous donations to Riverside to provide a special program on July 10th for this year’s Summer Reading Program. The program is a “Musical Slumber Party” presented by the Groove Club, a group from Nashville, Tennessee. The Groove Club will be at Jackson at 9 am, Perryville at 11:30 am, and Benton at 2:30 pm that day.

WIRELESS—Passwords and sign-ins are no longer needed. Just bring you device in and connect to the Internet through wireless using the “Riverside Guest” connection. It’s free, and you don’t have to have a library card. Riverside installed wireless at all six libraries last year, thanks to a generous grant from the Missouri State Library. It was been very successful and is getting more and more use all the time. Tell your friends!
