Forces are assigned to foreign missions for 20 years.

We contribute alongside of the allied and partner countries to the common effort of  keeping peace and stability worldwide.

Forces are integrated into UN, OSCE, NATO and EU.

We carried out missions in Africa and Asia, in the theatres of operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and Western Balkans.

Mission in AfghanistanThe Romanian troops

deployed in Afghanistan carried out over 6,000 missions, covering a large spectrum of activities, from counterinsurgency specific missions to the escort and reconnaissance missions.

Forces joined the Allies’ effort in preparing and training the Afghan Armed Forces and Police.

Mission in IraqRomanian troops

participated in the occupation of Iraq, reaching a peak of 730 soldiers before being slowly drawn down to 350 soldiers. Romania terminated its mission in Iraq and withdrew its last troops on July 24, 2009.

Mission in LibiaRomania contributed

to the NATO-led operation „Unified Protector” with the frigate „King Ferdinand” from April 22 to July 21, 2011.

Mission in Libia

The frigate crossed over 17,400 maritime miles and carried out aproximately 770 specific missions under the NATO Naval Group command. 

Mission in the BalkansOver 200 troops

participated in peace-keeping missions in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo, and, at the beginning of 2011, the troops from ROFND (Romanian manoeuvre battalion) in Kosovo were repatriated as a result of force reconfiguring process in that region.

CURRENT MISSIONS ABROADISAF ended in 2014

and our long-term engagement in Afghanistan will continue through Resolute Support Mission.

mission is a non-combat mission

It’s goal is to  to train, advise, and assist the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) being a medium term agreement.

Romania has announced the intention to contribute to the Resolute Support Mission with up to 650 troops, that will train, advice and assist the Afghan soldiers, as and will provide force protection for the Kandahar International Airport.

By performance and professionalism, dedication and determination, the Romanian Armed Forces make the good appearance of a reformed and solid organisation, interoperable and compatible with the armed forces of the NATO and EU member states.
