The Royal Mints New UK Coin Series The Shield of the Royal Arms has been given a contemporary treatment and its

whole has been cleverly split among all six denominations from the 1p to the 50p, with the £1 coin displaying the heraldic element in its entirety..

Finalist for the Best New Coin or Coin Series Award

The Royal Mints New UK Coin Series United Coins for the United Kingdom – a wonderful design story resulting in some

novel and quite fascinating coins.

I thought the six coins could make up a shield by arranging the coins both horizontally, as with the landscape idea, as well as vertically, in a sort of jigsaw style. I liked the idea and symbolism of using the Royal Arms, where individually the coins could focus on specific elements and when placed together they reveal the complete Royal Arms.

I found the idea that members of the public could interact with the coins the most exciting aspect of this concept. It's easy to imagine the coins pushed around a school classroom table or fumbled around with on a bar - being pieced together as a jigsaw and just having fun with them.’

Taggants for Cash Protection adopted by LoomisLoomis UK is adopting the use of taggants in its anti-theft systems and cash boxes

supplied by Applied DNA Sciences, to trace the origin and provide forensic authentication of stolen cash.

The markers are added to the dyes used in iBox cash transport containers. These use a patented technology to inject the dyes into the cash within the containers at high speed when these are opened without authorization or moved outside a predetermined location.

The indelible dyes mark the cash as stolen, and those who stole it as criminals. The invisible markers with-in these dyes, however, provide each cash box with its own unique identity and thus enable recovered cash to be attributed to specific robberies, as well as linking the criminal to the crime.
