Charise Mericle Harper lives near New York City. She has written and illustrated many books for youngreaders, including two other books about Grace.

Mom and Dad said that it takes much more than making a list to provethat you are responsible and dependable. Then they told me all the kindsof things that dog owners have to do. I knew about most of themalready except the part about having to clip the dog’s toenails. Itsounded kind of gross and hard to do, but I pretended I already knewall about it. Of course Dad also talked about having to pick up thepoop. Nobody likes that part, but I bet if I wore rubber gloves anddidn’t breathe through my nose I could do it. It’s the only reallyyucky thing about having a dog.

Then, while my brain was still thinking about everything, Dad said,“Maybe we can talk about it again when you are older.” He alwayssays this when I ask about something fun that he doesn’t want me tohave. When I’m older I’m going to be so busy with all the fun things Idon’t get to do now that I won’t even have time to do my homework, and it will be all his fault!

Morgy thinks Outlook Music Camp is a long way to go to get good at the trumpet. It’s almost in Canada! But Colonel Profundo gave him a “promising beginner” schol-arship. His friends, Byron and Clara, are coming, too. Dad says, “It’s not just fortrumpet—it’s summer camp and you’ll love it.”

Dad’s right, but he doesn’t know the half of it. There’s canoeing, swimming, soc-cer, and wild games of musical chairs. But there’s also Damian, oboe prodigy andbully. And Byron and Clara are in band, while Morgy’s stuck in orchestra, playing asolo. What is Morgy supposed to do if he can barely read music, he misses his dog,Dante, and his cat, Pancake, his best friend is in love with their trumpet teacher, andhe sees soldiers in three-cornered hats sneaking through the camp at night?

Keep practicing, of course!

A hilarious collection of loosely con-nected stories about Sir Lancelot for earlychapter book readers by the author ofthe successful Squire’s Tales series.

The Adventures of Sir Lancelot the Great

Gerald MorrisIllustrated by Aaron Renier

Many years ago, the storytellers say, the great King Arthur brought justice to Englandwith the help of his gallant Knights of the Round Table.

Of these worthy knights, there was never one so fearless, so chivalrous, so honor-able, so . . . shiny, as the dashing Sir Lancelot, who was quite good at defending thehelpless and protecting the weak, just as long as he’d had his afternoon nap.

Behold the very exciting and very funny adventures of Lancelot the Great, as onlythe acclaimed Arthurian author Gerald Morris can tell them.

Gerald Morris loves to visit the world of knights and chivalry in his books, but he’drather not live there. He’s much happier living in the twenty-first century in Wausau,Wisconsin, where he and his family can regularly have things like hot showers andfrozen custard. In addition, Wisconsin has very few recreant knights.

Aaron Renier grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, went to art school in Milwaukee, and now lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his dog, Beluga. He has been drawing aslong as he can remember. This is his first book with Houghton Mifflin.
