Cupcake Beanie by Sheeps Clothing

TOOLS:

• 1 pair 5mm needles

• 1 pair 6mm needles or sizes to give required tension

• Pom pom maker

• Sewing up needle

MATERIALS:

• 1 ball beige coloured yarn (12ply)

• 1 ball pink coloured yarn (12ply)

• ½ ball red coloured yarn

Step 1. Cast on 62 (66) stitches.

Step 2. 1st row (right side) *Knit 2, Purl 2*, repeat to last 2 stitches, K2

Step 3. 2nd row (wrong side) *Purl 2, Knit 2*, repeat to last 2

stitches, P2

Step 4. Repeat 1st and 2nd row 4 (5) times.

Step 5. Repeat 1st row once.

Step 6. Wrong side Break off beige yarn and join

in pink yarn. Change to 6mm needles

For small size only:Purl all stitches, increasing 1 stitch in the middle of the row (63 stitches)

For large size only: Purl to end of row (66 stitches)

Step 7. Right side - Bobble* row Right side: Bobble row

For small size only:Knit 3, “bobble”*, *K3 “bobble”* repeat to last stitch, K3

For large size only: Knit 2, “bobble”*, *K3 “bobble”* repeat to last stitch, K3

Continue in stocking stitch for 15 (19) rows

NOTE: Tension should be 17 stitches / 10cm

*How to knit a bobble:

• All into one stitch – knit, purl, knit, purl, knit

• Turn your work around as if you were knitting on the wrong side

• Purl all five stitches

• Turn around again to the front

• Knit 5 stitches together.

1st decrease row (right side)

*K 7(9) K2 tog* Repeat from * to * to end of row

2nd decrease row (wrong side)

Step 9. Keeping stocking stitch pattern correct, repeat 1st & 2nd decrease rows as above 5(6) times working 1 stitch less between decreases in knit row each time.

Next row:

K1, (K2 tog) to end of row.

Break off yarn and thread through a wool needle. Run needle through remaining stitches and take off the knitting needle.

Sew up using mattress stitch.

*To knit a bobble:

All into one stitch – knit, purl, knit, purl, knit. Turn your work around as if you were knitting on the wrong side. Purl all five stitches.Turn around again to the front. Knit 5 stitches together.

Using red yarn, make a pom pom. Ensure you leave a long enough “tail” to sew pom pom to top of hat.

Press finished hat lightly under a damp cloth.
