Monday 1 Memories of Manchester New MRI Atrium 10am-4pm/Drop in Allow volunteers from the Manchester Museum to take you on a trip down memory lane as they showcase objects from Manchester’s history. Explore and Tour New MRI Atrium 12 Midday Lime Arts is a team of artists working in the hospitals in Manchester for the past 36 years. Come and meet the team and explore the public artworks within the hospital through a series of tours that will take place throughout the day. Wildlife in your Backyard Eye Hospital Atrium 10am-1pm/Drop in Using the insect collection at Manchester Museum, our Curator of Entomology will offer advice on how to increase the diversity of insects in your garden. Artist Lucy Burscough will respond to these themes with a practical workshop – please feel free to join in. Precious Objects Eye Hospital Atrium 10am-1pm/Drop in Join Manchester Art Gallery’s Senior Conservator Claire Grundy in exploring some of the most interesting and precious objects in the gallery’s collection and find out more about the fascinating work of a Conservator. Singalong Eye Hospital Atrium 2-2.30pm/Drop in A fun, informal drop in session led from the atrium piano by Holly Marland, Music for Health Lead at LIME. From familiar songs to improvised ditties, this session will appeal to everyone, whether you feel like joining in with the singing, having a bop or listening! Tactile Discovery Eye Hospital Atrium 1-4pm/Drop in Manchester Museum has fantastically diverse collections including archaeology, zoology and botany. Join us for a extraordinary opportunity to touch real collection objects and get closer to history and the natural world. Egyptian Art of Healing Eye Hospital Atrium 11am Plentiful evidence survives from Ancient Egypt for the practice of healing and other means to promote health and well-being. This session draws on the rich Egyptology holdings of the Manchester Museum to describe ancient Egyptian approaches to disease and misfortune. Object Encounters Saint Mary’s Atrium 1-4pm/Drop in Have you ever wondered how we care for collections at the Manchester Museum? How we investigate objects and figure out how to treat them? Come and talk to members of the Manchester Museum conservation team and get up close and personal with some fascinating objects. Afrique Performs Saint Mary’s Atrium 10am-1pm/Drop in Meet international performer and poet Chanje Kunda, who uses expression, creativity and diversity to transform lives. Be sure to catch Chanje’s performances at 11am and 12pm. Bigger Picture RMCH Atrium 10am-4pm/Drop in The Children’s Hospital atrium will be home to an evolving artwork over the course of +Culture Shots week. Installation artist, Stella Corrall, will be working with her flexible plastic medium to create an organic artwork based on weaving, knotting and tying. Radical Knitting New MRI Atrium 10-4pm/Drop in Discover and have a go at Artist Sarah Marsh’s radical approach to knitting and learn more about the Gallery of Costume and Manchester Art Gallery’s recent Health and Wellbeing community project ‘We Sit, We Knit, We Unwind’. Tuesday 2 Living Worlds New MRI Atrium 10am-4pm/Drop in Volunteers from Manchester Museum will introduce you to our Living Worlds collection. Discover Salford’s fascinating social history collection of objects and find out about how to stimulate memories with treasured items and photographs.
