Project

Students will complete a group assignment with the objective of creating:

• An essay

• Presentation with visual aid

Groups will be able to choose their topic subject which must be based on

a specific Montana Tribe

• Native American Lives

• Past or Present

Objective

In groups, students will create a presentation and essay on aspects of Montana

Native American lives. Students will show mastery of Information Literacy

Standard 2 and the information literacy processes of Location, Selecting,

Organizing, and Presenting through the accurate competition of the assignment.

Assignment Requirements

Students must create an essay and presentation based on Montana Native

American lives. The essay and presentation must cover:

• Recreation

• Home Life

• Battle or Work

• Religion/Beliefs

• Ceremonies

• Education

Environment

Students will work on assignment in the library

The assignemnt will then be finished in class with some work done at

home

Standards

This project will involve Information Literacy Standards 1 through 5 with a focus on

Information Literacy Standard 2.

Standard 1

“The student will identify the task and determine the resources needed”

(Information).

• Students will identify in their groups what subject matter they will presentation

on and what information they will need to complete their essay and

presentation.

Information Literacy Standard

This aassignment will facilitate the mastery of Information Literacy Standard 2.

Information Literacy Standard 2 - “The student will locate sources, use

information, and present findings “ (Information).

“The student will evaluate the product and learning process” (Information).

• Students will evaluate themselves and peers on their presentation with visual

aid.

• Students will be required to properly cite the sources they use for supporting

information in regards to their essay and presentation.

• Students will have creative freedom with the media they use to present the

information on Montana Native Americans.

The time spent in the library with instruction from teacher and

librarian will facilitate the mastery of the Information Skills

processes of:

• Location

• Selecting

• Organizing

• Presenting

Location

Instruction in the library lead by the librarian will focus on the process of location.

Instruction will cover:

• How/ Where to locate sources

• Goals for locating sources

• Reliable

• Legitiement

• Types of information that can be used

Selecting

Instruction with teacher will cover the process of selecting.

Students will learn:

• What information will best support the topic

• How to choose the best information/sources from the many available

• Which sources are required for assignment

• At least Two sources - Text Example: Book, Journal, Magazine, Article, Newspaper

• At least One source- Online Example: Website, Vlog/Blog, Video documentation

Organizing

Instruction will focus on the process of organization.

Instruction will cover how to:

• Organize information properly to best support topic

• Based on Relavence

• Chronologically, Sequential, Cause and Effect, Compare and Contrast

Presenting

Instruction on the most effective way to present information will teach students the

correct process of quality presentation.

Instructional Strategies that will be used during this project to convey lessons

are:

• Lecture

• Instruction from librarian will utilize lecture to convey the information literacy process of location.

• Teacher will use direct instruction to educate students on selecting proper information and sources.

• Students will learn mastery of Locating, Selecting Organising, and Presenting Information through completion

of the project.

• Peer Teaching/Collaboration

• Students will learn new knowledge of Montanan Native Americans through the peer lead presentations.

• Peers will collaborate with each other to fulfill the assignments objectives and teach each other information.

• Students will work in groups to create a quality product on Montanan Native Americans.

Students will be assessed of their mastery of the Information Literacy Standard 2

and the processes of Locating, Selecting, Organizing, and Presenting through

their essay and presentation.

• Quality, Accuracy, and Effort - regarding the essay and presentation with visual aid

• The fulfillment of Standard 2 Objectives

• 2.4 Extract information from multiple resources needed to solve the problem

• 2.5 organize and manage information from a wide variety of sources to solve the problem

• 2.6 create a product that presents findings

Students will be assessed on a scale form 1 – 5.

1 –Didn’t fulfil required measurement

2- Slightly fulfilled required measurement

3- Fulfilled most of the required measurement

5- Went above and beyond in fulfilling the required measurement

Assessment

Student will be required to fill out an evaluation on their own presentations and

their peers.

This evaluation will make students reflect on how they did and what they could

have done better. By evaluating their peers students will become more involved in

the presentation process, pat more attention and learn more.

Assessment

The assessment of the essay and presentation with visual aid through the 1- 5

scale alongside with self and peer evaluation will give a proper measurement of

students mastery of Standards and information.

Analysis

The processes Locating, Selecting, Organizing, and Presenting are the best

choices of processes to teach students because they fulfil the objectives outlined

by the Information Literacy Standard 2 which is the focus of the project. As well,

these process properly teaches students the knowledge they need going forward

in their educational career.

Analysis

The strategies Lecture, Direct Instruction, Project Based Learning, Peer

Teaching/Collaboration, and Team Group Product are the best strategies to assist students

in gaining mastery of the Information Literacy Standards 2 (and others) and new information

because they positively reinforce the subjects to be taught and actively involve educators

and students together while interacting with the information to be taught or gained.

Analysis

The resources available are the best resources to utilize because they great

accurate and reliable sources that positively support the propose topics of the

assignment that students have been charged with.
