Why develop a new format?
• One of Cubiks clients, BP, had raised the question of how to develop a faster, easier way to complete 360. This new format should reduce the time investment by reviewers especially senior management.

Besides time savings, we tackled
… the impact of HALO and HORNS effect
… the impact of central tendencyBy
Developing a Forced-Choice ‘Ipsative’ format
The approach has now been successfully applied by BP and several other international organsiations

Classical 360 degree rating format
![Page 6: Cubiks Eatp Version 29092010](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042602/559ae3781a28ab93798b462f/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Alternative forced choice format
![Page 7: Cubiks Eatp Version 29092010](https://reader034.vdocuments.us/reader034/viewer/2022042602/559ae3781a28ab93798b462f/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Reviewers then rank order their choices

The forced choice approach can alternatively be applied at the level of
behavioural statements

Benefits
EATPConference.org 10
• A short, focused and purely developmental assessment that allows a quick rank ordering of key strengths and weaknesses
• Much less evaluative than the traditional approach, geared to a developmental discussion
• Can be used in conjunction with the traditional ‘scale’ approach if one needs also to benchmark employees’ competencies
• Forces reviewers to differentiate between strengths and development priorities instead of simply opting for mid range scores or rating everything the same
• Enables managers and subjects to prioritise and focus in on development needs
• User experience across BP and other organisations has been extremely positive to date
