Season of Lights Opening

Cubmaster:

This is the season of lights. It is a time when the days are

shorter and the nights are longer and sometimes cold. But,

somehow, things seem brighter. Shopping centers are bright

with holiday lights. Many homes have lights to light the way

for the Christ Child. Others have candles burning to commemorate

the miracle of the oils of Hanukkah. Even the stars in the winter sky

seem brighter.

The most brilliant light comes from the Cub Scouts as

they live the Cub Scout Promise and Law of the Pack.

Let us all stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance, the

Cub Scout Promise and the Law of the Pack.

Paper Bag Snowman

Materials:

White paper bags (2 for each Cub Scout)

Newspaper or other paper to stuff inside one of the bags

Markers or crayons

Yarn pieces to tie around the middle of the bag (12”-18”)

Construction paper (several sheets per den of Cub

Scouts)

Glue

Scissors

Directions:

1. Ball up newspaper or other paper and stuff it into one of the white bags.

2. When the bag is full of paper, take the empty bag and pull it over the stuffed

bag so that the bottom ends of each bag are now at the top and bottom of the

snowman.

3. Wrap the pre-cut pieces of yarn tightly around the middle of the bags (or below

where the head would be) to form the top and the bottom sections of the

snowman.

4. With markers/crayons, construction paper and glue, decorate the face and

body features of the snowman.

Tell It Like It Isn’t

Materials:

Page of phrases for Cub Scouts to say

As we talk to other people and listen to other people we

don’t always hear things correctly. Sometimes what we

hear may not be the original message either. This can be what happens when

people talk about something or someone and don’t know the entire story.

Directions:

1. Have the Cub Scouts sit in a circle.

2. The first Cub Scout whispers a phrase from the suggested phrases list in the

second Cub Scout’s ear.

3. The second Cub Scout whispers what he thinks he heard in the next Cub Scout’s

ear.

4. This continues around the circle until it is whispered to the last Cub Scout. He

says what he heard out loud to everyone.

5. The first Cub Scout says what the phrase really was.

Continue with a few additional phrases, letting somebody different go first each

time.

Tell It Like It Isn’t

Phrases to use

Do your best.

Cub Scouting is so much fun!

My den leader and Cubmaster are awesome.

The Cub Scout gives goodwill and follows Akela.

George fell off his bike into a ditch, broke his leg and scratched his face.

I went on a hike and saw a blue jay, a squirrel, two bears, and a moose!

Tomorrow is my mother’s birthday – she will be 48 years old.

I found a frog in the grass today. It was green with yellow, red and black spots.
