FOR MEN ONLY

My article is really not just “For Men Only” but I thought it might catch your attention. My article is a challenge to all men in our congregation to attend the “No Regret’s Conference” we are hosting on February 4th. The conference begins at 9 a.m. and will be completed around 5 p.m. The total cost is $10 which includes your lunch (what a deal)! I am praying about how God will use this conference in a special way to challenge the men of our congregation and from around the world to a deeper commitment with Jesus Christ. On the “No Regrets” website they recommend some ways that we might keep the fire for Christ ablaze in our lives:

1. Be Ready for God to Work – Keep in mind, the goal of these conferences is to put men in a place where they can be touched, taught and transformed by God. God is going to work differently in each man’s life and that is exciting. Some will come to Christ; some will make a commitment to give up an addiction; some will develop a new friendship; and others will be mobilized to serve the world in which they live. No matter what it is, God is going to work in their lives and you will need to have an encouraging and equipping environment for these men to plug into when they come home (or in the local church.)

2. Continue the Momentum Created by the Event – One of the main principles of ministering to men is building a bridge between activities. Never (and I really mean never) do something just for the sake of doing it. In our case, let’s be praying about how God might use the momentum of this event to trigger a movement of God anew in the men at the Sardinia Church of Christ. Over the years, some of my greatest memories of working with the men of our church have been the trips to men’s conferences all over the country. This cannot be the entirety of your ministry but can be one of the key components of a well-rounded ministry to men. I am so thankful we have the opportunity to host an event that can serve that purpose again. Hope to see you on February 4 at “No Regrets” and make sure you bring a friend. For the Cause that Counts,

Kevin

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go and therefore and make disciples of all the nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all that I command you; and lo, I am with you always even to the end

of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20

Are you a Christian or are you a disciple? I know someone is thinking, “Joe, we are both. Can’t we be both?” I certainly hope that we are all both, however, there is a difference between the two. This is not an argument of what we should call ourselves. This is more about an inherited mentality that comes with what we call ourselves, or rather, how we understand ourselves.

As a “Christian” we take specific stances on political issues and we have our hotline verse numbers to reference when needed. We know what is “bad” and tell others they should not do them. We go to church on Sundays and maybe another day during the week. We like Jesus and quote Him when what He says is applicable. We call on Him as the Savior for our shortcomings and encourage others to do the same.

As a disciple we are followers of a teacher. As a follower we go where He goes, often to places we don’t want to go, but we go because He is the teacher. It means we have to move. It means we ask Him questions because we want to understand and we mull over what He says because of the changes it implicates in our behavior. As a disciple it means we take what the teacher says and practice it repeatedly. As a disciple we are constantly learning new things because our teacher is the God of all creation.

Notice a difference? If we are not careful about understanding what we are in our relationship with the Savior Christ, it creates two different lifestyles. One that is static, unmoving, legalistic, and capped in development. The other is a life long process (or journey) in which there is no end and most of all requires doing a nasty word- submission. Being a Christian tells others where we stand, politically and socially, while being a disciple tells others who we follow and where we’ll go. The Christian stands put and the disciple moves. A disciple can most certainly be a Christian as well. But it is easy for a Christian to not be a disciple.

The Alpha Class met on December 20th at the Country Inn in Mt. Orab, with eleven members attending. We had a good time, good food, and good fellowship. We did not have a meeting in January.

We discussed having movie night in February but nothing has been decided yet. Being the old(er) members of the congregation, we don’t get out when the weather is bad so we will check the weather forecast and then decide whether to have a meeting or not. There are a lot of good Christian movies out and we enjoy getting together as a class to watch them.

As alway, if you are looking for a Sunday School class to attend, the Alpha Class is located across from the sanctuary door on the offices side of the building. We welcome you to join us on Sunday morning at 9:00.

Thank you to my church family for all

the Christmas cards I received both

through the mail and at the church

building.

At Christmas last year my husband

was very ill with throat cancer and

later in January 2016 he went to be

with Jesus. When I received all those

cards, it made my day brighten even

as I thought of Paul.

Thank you so much and may God

bless you richly.

Sincerely, Carolyn Mounts

I wish to thank all of those who sent me Christmas cards along with their love and well wishes and the many who sent their wonderful family pictures. Thank you so much from my heart to your hearts. God Bless You, Ethel Fender

Thank You

Registration is now open for Butler Springs summer camp experiences for kids of all ages. Pick up a summer schedule in the front lobby to see the wide variety of available camps: 2 Day Camps, 3 2-Day

Camps, 2 Discover Safari Camps, 8 Safari Camps, 2 Adventure Camps, 2 Wilderness Quest Camps, 4 Paintball Camps, 14 Adult/Child Camps, and special interest camps for performing arts, soccer, middle school, elevate 58, basketball, cheer, kids cafe, STEM , selfie #noFilter, archery, karate, junior high extreme, volleyball, water sports, be creative, Canadian outback, media production, culinary cafe, wild West Virginia, one21 summer experience, and handi-camp. Horse Camp is also listed on the schedule but it is already filled!

While these descriptions may read just "fun", rest assured that each camp session focuses on preaching/teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ through lessons, activities, worship, small groups, etc... Camp sessions are, first and foremost, an opportunity to win souls to Christ with the specific camp session's theme being an invitation to get students to attend camp. If you wish to know more about a particular camp

content please call 937-588-2205 to speak with Chris Osborne. Check the schedule for the dates and age groups that apply for the camp of interest and then take a look at the costs. Members of Sardinia Church of Christ receive a 50% discount when using the discount code of 20Sardinia17 on the application form. Regardless of which camp is selected, the experience is so rich and fulfilling from a personal aspect (getting to know oneself and making new friends), from a spiritual aspect (a deeper knowledge of God and his love for mankind and developing a closer walk with Him), and finally from a physical aspect (with lots of opportunities to run, swim, climb, play, and have a generally great time with regular eating, resting, and sleeping times). The experience is so different from what many children experience in their own home lives that it leaves an indelible mark of peace, joy, and happiness that they’ve been able to find no where else. This richness is why so many who experience this summer camp want to return year after year. Many of the older campers can also choose to work a week or more at camp for free weeks of camping. If this is of interest please contact the church office for the application form and reference forms. Forms are also available in the church office for permission to administer regular medication and for early dismissal. Just call the office at 937-446-2594 or contact by email at [email protected] and arrangements can be made for receipt of required forms.
