On the Chilly but clear

morning of December 12,

1911, Delhiites made a

beeline for a maidan near

Burari to witness the

biggest Tamasha of British

Raj – THE DELHI

DURBAR.

King Emperor George V in his imperial regalia with Queen Mary at the Coronation Durbar on 12th December 1911.

This was the 3rd such Durbar in Delhi after 1877 and 1903.

But for the first time a reigning King attended the coronation Durbar.

However it is remembered for another historic event.

King George V declared on this day the shifting of Capital from Calcutta to Delhi.

This again brought back Delhi on India’s Political Map and changed the course of its History.

Delhi 100 – A Unique edit Series by HT which touched upon all facets of Delhi.

Not Just an edit Series……

……. But an Unique Initiative from Delhi’s largest newspaper to touch all Delhiites with an array of On ground

activities and involving everyone.

Why is HT doing this? Started by none other then Mahatma Gandhi in 1924. HT has a rich legacy and closeness with the city. Has Closely witnessed the making of Delhi. The largest read and largest circulated daily of Delhi. “HT belong to Delhi” and “Delhi belongs to HT”.
