Close to a thousand people rallied outside the State Capitol in Hartford on January 15, less than a week before President-elect Donald Trump’s swearing in. The crowd was excited to show its support for Connecticut’s congressional delegation for its strong stand against repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by Congress and the Trump administration.

Big Pharma “Getting Away with Murder”
Wednesday evening while the Senate started down the unconscionable road of repealing the Affordable Care Act, Bernie Sanders took to the floor to talk about a completely different topic: that prescription drug prices are getting higher and higher.
Ironically, President-Elect Trump had been speaking about the same topic earlier that day at his press conference, stating that the prescription drug corporations are “getting away with murder”.
Sanders concurred, “Phama does get away with murder. Literally murder. People die because they can’t get the prescription drugs they need.”
On Monday, January 9th, the Certificate of Need Task Force met for the final time (you can see our prior blogs on the CON Task Force here). Task Force members spent a bulk of the time discussing and voting on draft recommendations.
The drafted report stated that “After months of discussion it became clear that Task Force members would not achieve consensus opinion regarding revisions to the state’s CON program. Therefore, Task Force staff developed a set of recommendations reflecting the varying options shared by members. The Task Force agreed to vote on the presented options in order to gauge levels of support for each.”

Eighteen million people could lose their insurance within a year and individual premiums would shoot upward if Congress repealed major provisions of the Affordable Care Act while leaving other parts in place, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said on Tuesday. A report by the office sharply increases pressure on Republicans to come up with a comprehensive plan to replace the health care law. It is likely to doom the idea of voting to dismantle the 2010 health law almost immediately, with an effective date sometime in the future while Congress works toward a replacement.
