The summer of 2010 marked the return of the sun! Though at times the temperatures rose
into the nineties and the humidity was oppressive, the skies remained dry and Tecumseh’s
athletic and tripping programs, as well as the waterfront proceeded unfettered by poor
weather. The largest number of campers in the past ten years enjoyed a full and robust
experience during their stay at Camp Tecumseh and participated in a wide variety of ac-
tivities. A hard-working group of dedicated counselors provided the most productive en-
vironment and the highest quality of instruction for each camper. Tecumseh counselors remain the true life-
blood of our camp.
On the field and court and in the swim lanes, Tecumseh competed in over sixty contests with other camps with
Tecumseh victorious in most outings. Our warriors bested Camp Pemigewassett 15-3-2 on that special day.
Regular day trips explored the beautiful White Mountains up close and personal, while two overnight trips went
off without a hitch for the older campers. A highlight of the tripping season was summiting Mount Katahdin –
the northern most peak on the Appalachian Trail. Every so often we would interrupt the campers’ endless en-
joyment with several necessities: three delicious meals from our new and well-received food service, a well-
needed rest hour, and powerful counselors’ speeches at Prayers.
The final week of camp saw the arrival of several excellent visiting coaches. Billy Daye, coach of the Boston
Cannons lacrosse team, spent three days with us. Tony Williams came again and gave several terrific soccer
clinics and Gary Bucci helped out with football clinic. Our own alum, Dan Leibovitz, now back at the Universi-
ty of Pennsylvania, helped Mike Dougherty with basketball clinic. Closing weekend saw more perfect weather
and a great turnout for all Tecumseh Weekend events: a tennis round robin, a High Noon run, a tasty beach
cookout, and the 81st Gilbert & Sullivan production, H.M.S. Pinafore. One of the highlights of the closing
Awards Ceremony was having Giuseppe Mazza return to present the Pancho Mazza award again this year.
And while the summer of 2010 was one of Tecumseh’s best; as is our nature as a camp, we will always strive
for self-improvement. Along with the extensive and regularly scheduled maintenance, Tecumseh has initiated
two major projects for the summer of 2011. The long-awaited indoor, multi-use pavilion will be under con-
struction this fall and should be ready for use next summer! Tentatively the new building will be named in hon-
or of past Director, George Munger. Located where the roller rink presently stands, this new building will
house three basketball courts (two crosswise and one large one from end to end), and the same space will be
padded and suitable for indoor soccer and other assorted indoor activities. The building will also house a larg-
er and safer space for the Woodshop and lavatories for men and women. Every assurance has been taken to
insure this is a building that will strengthen our program and blend appropriately into our existing environs.
The second project will make certain renovations to the existing climbing wall, add new climbing surfaces, and
increase the number of challenge activities.
So, for forty-nine days Tecumseh’s top-flight staff and well crafted program has nourished both the body and
soul of every camper – all 216! The Board of Trustees has wisely allowed Tecumseh’s excellent campus to
evolve, so that we can offer the best possible venues for camper enjoyment and
growth. The parents, alumni, and friends of our great camp remain staunch and true
in their unparalleled support of Tecumseh. Alexander Grant could not be prouder of
our efforts to live out his vision of a Tecumseh summer.
Best Regards,
Jim and Nina Talbot
