RISIS, the main University student database, holds records on students, programmes, modules and progression. If you are involved in student administration, you will need to access RISIS, but there are two ways of doing this. Tutors and departmental admin staff generally make use of the web portal: this provides information such as tutor cards, class lists, disability information, the opportunity to update module descriptions, exam mark entry and examiners’ reports. If you are involved in admissions, advanced statistical analysis, Open Days or main admin areas such as Student Services, then you are likely to need access to the full database, for which more training is necessary. This session covers the basic use of both the portal and the main database, and lets new users see what might be available in either database. You will follow a series of exercises to learn which method is best (and quickest) for finding out relevant information about a student, programme or module. Note: We will only set up new user access to the main database for staff who have attended this session.

This workshop unpacks this process, and looks at skills to handle it better with a special emphasis on boundary making so that such engagements become less exhausting and more satisfying.
