Youth awakening through CSR by Sterling Institute of Management Studies The growing trend of CSR (corporate social responsibility) shows that companies are beginning to understand the need to do more than make profit and to be part of a greater social involvement. While many have corporate giving programs, few companies know how to achieve a substantial social impact. This is the reason business schools have an important role to proactively educate current and future business leaders about responsible management. Typically in any MBA/MMS course students get exposure to functional discipline like finance marketing, operations, Human resource etc. and also develop soft skill. However they are rather far away from the social issues typically pertaining to lower socio-economic background. To enable the student to get a real exposure, NCRD’s Sterling Institute of Management Studies has made the CSR project for two week mandatory. In course of these CSR project students worked in various NGO’s like Old Age Home , Mentally retarded , Orphanage , Environmental awareness , Educating the less privileged . They have completed various task assign by NGO’s . Some of the NGO where students worked were Kherwadi Social Welfare Association, Aarambh, Children of the world trust, PAWS etc. The outcome of the CSR project is that the students were sensitized to the social issues. The outlook of the students towards the weaker section of society is changed. Now they understand their duties and responsibilities as a citizen towards our society and environmental concern. SIMS is planning to continue this activity by providing opportunity to our students to work in the CSR department of corporates.
